I know by experience that they named after Presidents and famous people all the time. "James Madison", "Thomas Jefferson" "Christopher Columbus", "George Washington", "James Monroe", "Sterling Price", "Francis Marion", and many many others. In your case, Nancy married a "JAMES" McKINNEY/McKENNEY on 8 Jan 1862 [listed in book A, pg 45, of the Oregon Co. Marriage Books]. Since you said his name was MONROE, and the marriage listing has him as JAMES, looks like MONROE is a middle name, or vice versa. Since the famous person is James Monroe, I would speculate that James Monroe McKINNEY was his full name. Lanita
