JED is buried at Old Greencastle cemetery here in Dayton. Unfortunately, that cemetery is only open one day a year (Memorial Day). I was in there for the first time this year.... too bad we weren't looking for him then. Ward, James ED, 1838-1899, born 1839 in NJ, d 3 Oct 1899, Civil War, Pvt, Co H, 12th OVI. section 2, row 19, grave 3 (it appears that he was buried elsewhere in the cemetery at one point and was moved later) There is a Civil War era cannon or mortar in that cemetery, he may be buried near it. JED's wife, Martha Jane, is also there: Ward, Martha Jane, 1838-1910, 72yrs, d 7/25/1910. section 2, row 19 grave 2 I looked for an obit for JED in the Dayton Daily News and couldn't find one. I didn't find him in the Montgomery county death index, but I looked before I found the death date, although I really don't think I missed him. There's another index for Dayton deaths, that the library had misplaced. I really am starting to suspect that he wasn't living in Dayton after about 1896-97, but died elsewhere and was buried here.
