Linda, I checked my typeset and indexed "Centennial Portrait and Biographical Record of the City of Dayton and Montgomery County, Ohio..." (Chicago, Ill.: A. W. Bowen & Co., 1897) and while there are references to your Edward Everett Barney; there are none on the pages that you referenced. I also checked my "History of the City of Dayton and Montgomery County Ohio (Chicago, Ill.: S. J. Clarke Pub. Co., 1909) and did not locate a match either. The 1882 Beers book supplied no hits as well. So what ever book your parents obtained those pages from is a mystery to me.
