    3. GREETINGS, ALL I, too, was irritated by the deluge of obituaries on the email list from the message board. And, yes, I know how important obits are to genealogy research. And I also have a ‘delete’ key. But I think the message board and list are the wrong places for such a tsunami of obituaries. The right places for obits are online … in collections of OTHER obituaries. That is where I always look for obits, where there are other obits. Much like the bank robber said when asked why he robbed banks … because that is where the money is!! I know of two online collections of Montgomery County obituaries (there may be more). One is the Montgomery County site on Rootsweb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohmontgo/obits/index.html However, this site has not been updated since 2007, so the webmaster may not be maintaining the site. The other site, that I recommend, is the site by the Genealogical Society; Montgomery County, Ohio; Obituaries and Death Notices from Dayton Newspapers http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohmontgs/obitlist.html This has more obituaries than the other location, is well organized, and has lots of obituaries; there were more than 20 in the ‘F’ category alone when I looked this morning. We all would do a service for the genealogy community by putting our obits in a location such as that of the Montgomery County Genealogical Society; just contact the webmaster of the site to learn how to submit things. Now if I only had some decent OCR software for my Mac I’d get busy with this project. I really don’t want to transcribe all those obits … Happy hunting. DICK FOLKERTH Dallas
