Katie was born on December 2, 1924 in Dayton to Benjamin H. and Ruth (Compton) Rich. She was a life long resident of Dayton and a graduate of Oakwood High School and Miami University. She married Gordon K. Battelle in 1945, later divorced and later married W.D. "Dick" Common in 1964, he preceded her in death. Katie is survived by her sister, Mary Beth Sutton of Dayton; her daughter, Barbara Battell (Patrick) Schwartz of Salt Lake City UT; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and other relatives. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 5 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Oakwood. Interment Woodland Cemetery.
