Irene 91, passed away on January 31, 2008, at Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community, Lebanon, Ohio. Irene was born in Dayton, Ohio, and was proud of her Newcom, Irvin & Barney family heritage. A life-long resident of the Miami Valley, Irene resided in Dayton, Clinton County, Centerville, and retired to Lakengren, near Eaton, where she was a member of Sugar Valley U.M. Church. She had been a photographer, lab tech, and film editor for many years in the 1350th Motion Picture Squadron until it moved to California. Not wanting to move from Washington Twp., she took the position of illustrator in the Avionics Laboratory art shop until her retirement from Wright-Patterson AFB in 1977. Always an active participant in sports, Irene took up competitive small-bore target shooting as a young woman. Then as a bride, Irene honeymooned at Camp Perry, OH, for the national rifle matches, where she won the title of National Women's Champion. Over the years, she remained very active in the sport and was a member of the Women's International Randall Team, as a competitor, coach and witness. Her memberships included the Dayton Industrial Athletic League, the Wright-Patterson AFB Rifle Team, the Ohio Rifle & Pistol Assn., and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Assn. She was also a proud member of the Stinkniks Rifle Club, an informal club of renowned international shooters. Among her numerous other hobbies were art, photography, knitting, sewing, and gardening. She was preceded in death by beloved husband William H. (Bill) Fisher, parents Laura D. (Richman) & Benjamin E. Barney, brothers Bob Barney and Ed Barney, and sister Virginia Wilson Jones, all of Dayton. Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law Lois and Tom Lemley of Beavercreek, and Billie D. (Reeves) and Joel Setzekorn of Dayton; grandchildren Jennie and Gabe Holt of Oxford; Patrick Lemley, Carrie Lemley, Laura and Kip Lourens and David Reeves of Dayton; great- grandchildren Jade Stidham, Julia Stidham and Alexander Holt of Oxford; sister and brother-in-law Ruth (Evans) and Jack Ward of Englewood, FL; brother Dick Barney of Lexington, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be at held on Sunday, February 10, 2008, at 2:00 PM in the chapel at Otterbein Lebanon, 585 N. State Route 741, Lebanon, OH 45036. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service. Irene is a body donor to the Anatomical Gift Program at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. Following release of her cremated remains, her ashes will be co-mingled and interred with those of her husband in Beavertown Cemetery, Kettering. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution in Irene's name to Crossroads Hospice, the Alzheimer's Assn., or the Otterbein Lebanon Benevolent Fund. Envelopes will be made available at the service. Irene's family wishes to express their heart-felt thanks to the staff and special angels of Otterbein Lebanon and Crossroads Hospice. FISHER, L.
