    3. Having been a student of world history since my days in grammar school, and often recalling the phrase, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?", it was interesting this morning to find a reference to Henry Morton Stanley in an issue of the "Gospel Messenger". It was just as interesting to see where a difference was in the original article so published. The article refers to Emin Bey, which I thought was a Germanic name but which is not the case. His name in truth was Isaak Eduard Schnitzer. Recounting from the "Gospel Messenger" article: "Stanley, the great African explorer, who about a year ago started on an expedition to relieve Emin Bey, a German who located in Africa for the noble purpose of civilizing and bettering the condition of the wild tribes of that country, has not been heard from, if we except a rumor that he was wounded by the negroes, and grave fears are entertained for his safety. He has gained great renown as an African explorer, and it is to be hoped that he may yet return in safety." More can be read of Henry Morton Stanley and Emin Bey at Wikipedia. Emin Bey, of mention in the "Gospel Messenger", is mentioned at Wikipedia as Emin Pasha. Interesting reading! Wayne Webb
