The article that Mr. Webb references about Rev. David Winter can be found on the Montgomery County genealogical society's web site at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohmontgs/ddn_winters.html Carolyn -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_co_oh-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:montgomery_co_oh-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Wayne Webb Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2008 10:08 AM To: montgomery_co_oh@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MONTGOMERY_CO_OH] Hawker & Fairfield cemeteries Morning Barbara, As Carolyn was kind enough to point out, both churches and the associated cemeteries are not located in Montgomery county. They are just outside of it in Greene county. However they do have a connection with other Reformed church congregations in Montgomery county, Ohio. What is the connection? Both congregations were, and please do not quote me too stringently on this, founded by that paragon of the Reformed religion in southwestern Ohio, David Winters. One of these days I will stumble onto the journals he supposedly kept. Many years ago I made a trip to David's Church there in Kettering for research reasons. In talking to the kind people there we got onto other congregations founded by David Winters. Amongst those not in Dayton itself was the Zion church down in Moraine on Dixie Highway and both Hawker's and Fairfield in Greene county. I seem to recall there were several others as well. Waynesboro seems to pop into my mind for some reason. Sometime ago I sent a large PDF to one of the Montgomery county web sites. It was the full newspaper clipping of the life and times of Rev. David Winters. I found it down at David's church and scanned it in pieces. It was amateurish and done many years ago but it was better than nothing. There was a lot of good information in it about the early church in Montgomery county and some of the surrounding counties. Problem is that I cannot now remember which Montgomery county site I sent it to. Perhaps Carolyn, or some other kind soul, can recall where I sent it to and help a failing memory.
