This came through on another list I belong to and I thought it might be of interest to some of you. I have never seen it before. Hi list, For those with English ancestry the Yesterdays site has thousands of names of persons who appear in official records within the County of Derbyshire but who came from elsewhere. Such records as Settlement Certificates which gave the name of the last legal Settlement of the person to which the certificate belonged. This document was presented to the Overseers of the new parish into which the bearer of the certificate was hoping to settle in. Should that person eventually become a burden on the new parish he was removed to the place the Settlement Certificate said he came from. Removal Orders were the instrument the Overseers used, these like the Settlement Certificates are listed in Yesterdays. School admissions for Derbyshire schools reveal that some children emigrated to America. The are also listed, this is an ongoing project and no doubt many more will be found an listed. Law and Order reveals the ordeal some people went through at the hands of some nasty people, some hoped to get away stealing washing from the hedge or a goose or two. Again all listed in Yesterdays. Link below. There are many more including Workhouse records. Some really hard stories as people struggled to survive. Again not all were from Derbyshire but from other araes of Britain. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm
