I have photographs from my family taken at Kabekona Ranch in August 1914. Does anyone know who owned the ranch, where it was located or have any other information about it. Many thanks. Can any listers tell me where in the Montgomery County court house archived records of voter registrations might be kept? I'm looking for some from ~1960-65, and I don't know where to start. Sharon Howell

Jim, When you get your Southern District book look under the Lower Miami church. You will find that at times the Lower Miami church has been called the Holler church. The same applies to the cemetery associated with it. I would recommend directing your web broweser to the Montgomery County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society and ordering their book on Jefferson township cemeteries. You want Vol. V, Book B. While I do not like some of the tactics of the authors, a personal matter, they did a good reading of the cemetery. I have found only a smattering of incorrect readings verified with photos and court records. There is a very definite difference between the Dayton State Hospital and the Montgomery County Infirmary. Graves from the grounds of the Dayton State Hospital were moved to Woodland Cemetery many years ago. The cemetery for the Montgomery County Infirmary remains intact and is located on what was the grounds of the Infirmary, on Infirmary Road. The cemetery is maintained by the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department. I have the readings from both cemeteries if you need a lookup. For more information on the Montgomery County Infirmary, see this web site: http://www.carolynjburns.com/infirmary/index.html Carolyn Johnson Burns Publicity Officer Montgomery County Chapter OGS carolynjburns@woh.rr.com http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohmontgs/
Hello Everyone, I am new to the list. I'm helping a friend search for his Grparents who he has not been able to find aft 15y of searching. This is what is known: (Daniels or McDaniels?; Nichols or MIchols?) Calvin DANIELS and wife Mary NICHOLS had a son George Arthur DANIELS born 04 Aug 1890 in Dayton, Ohio. The parents' name came from George's marriage record. The birth date and place came from the newly discovered WWI Draft Reg. Card; however, the family always thought that George had been born in West Virginia until this point with a birth date of 1894. Parents' births, marriage & death dates & places are unknown. Siblings are unknown although it is thought that there may have been a brother to George named Albert. The family may have lived for a time in Dayton, OH and George, himself, lived for a short while in Akron, OH. He was in OH during the great flood of 1908 but was in Saskatchewan, Canada and married in Saskatchewan by the year 1918. His US WWI Draft Card shows that he filled it out while living in Canada but the Card was stamped American. Mining and West Virginia do figure into the family but we're not sure how - family story has it that George may have been around the coal mines when young. As for his father's name of Calvin DANIELS, in searching the name does appear quite often in West Virginia... so we're wondering if he may have been born there. Any help in this would be so appreciated. Shirley

There is a cemetery there but unless you know where you are going you will have a very hard time finding it. I have an ancestor, John McCune buried out there. Took me several trips to find it. Can't see it from the road. There are one or two upright stones that people have placed that found their ancestors there, but Carolyn is correct the rest are all flat with numbers on them, no names. I found my ancestors in a book for the cemetery. Not sure where I found that book though. SOmeone else might know.
