The Dayton State Hospital was at the corner of Wayne and Wilmington Ave's. It is the large building set back off the road and it is now a large retirement center. It has a lengthy history, including the Civil War days.

Wasn't the State Hospital used for other things too? My husband had a great Uncle in Logan County who had TB & he was taken there to die. There are some records,on film, at Wright State for the Dayton State Hospital. OHS apparently has even more, but you need a court order or something, in order to see theirs, due to privacy reasons. In the 1880 census I think it was, the reasons listed for why the inmates were there are fascinating. Naturally the person I was looking for was there at the wrong time to show in the census or the Wright State records....always the way. Ann
