Hello Dear List Members, Thanks so much for all the good suggestions of how to find more info on Gregory Yount. We have a subscription to GenealogyBank.com and they have obituaries through current days as well as all kinds of historical papers. I have tried to find an obit, but have only found the very brief death notice in the Dayton Daily News. That notice had his name, the day he died, when the funeral would be and which funeral home. I contacted the Dayton Library and all they found was the same brief death notice. I contacted the funeral home listed and they have found some info and are sending it snail mail. Thanks to all who replied and had such good suggestions. nola thacker austin, tx By the way, if anyone needs a look up in the GenealogyBank.com database, I'm happy to do that. If you want to contact me off list, my email is nolabert@earthlink.net. Your email might first go into my "suspect spam" filter, but I check that every time I check my email. I will add you to my address book once I get your request. Someone suggested that I use some other way to communicate with the list so the responses don't go first into my suspect spam file group, but I don't know how to do that. nola > [Original Message] > From: <montgomery_co_oh-request@rootsweb.com> > To: <montgomery_co_oh@rootsweb.com> > Date: 12/18/2007 2:02:46 AM > Subject: MONTGOMERY_CO_OH Digest, Vol 2, Issue 237 > > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. a look up for a death certificate of Gregory Yount... I am searching for the family's of these soldier's who was killed in the Korea War. When they entered service they gave Montgomery County, Ohio as there home of record. Soldier: BILLY ALLEN DEBORD DOB October 23, 1931. Caucasian DOL July 25, 1950. MIA Soldier: EARL TENNEL HUTCHINS DOB April 22, 1927. Black DOL November 30, 1950. KIA Soldier: JOHN ROBERT WARD DOB December 27, 1922. Caucasian DOL June 12, 1951. KIA Soldier: ROBERT CLEVENGER LACY DOB Jan. 2, 1932. Caucasian DOL November 1, 1950. MIA Soldier: WILLIAM ROBERT OILER DOB May 28, 1929. Caucasian DOL November 28, 1950. MIA Soldier: JAMES JOSEPH ROBERTS DOB June 9, 1928. Caucasian DOL July 20, 1950. POW When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 51 families in Ohio that have not been located. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. Any help, questions, or comments, Please contact me at hgdavis@bellsouth.net I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these family's. It was somewhat difficult to view the death certificate information. I posted a note on the 'sister' 'Board' of this mail list about the steps taken to view the d.c.: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.montgomery/4301/mb.ashx There was a follow-up response about easier access to death certificates (if you are near Columbus, Ohio ;-). See reply to above link. Often the information you seek is found in obituaries, which are much, much easier to obtain. Sometimes one can find a volunteer to search a library record and respond. It seems odd to me, though, often the responses are sent privately, rather than publicly. Thus, if someone else does research, another volunteer is sought and duplicate effort is made. :-| HTH, Chuck > Nola Thacker > Austin, TX > <snip> >
You can probably obtain the death certificate; however, birth records are not so easy. You must either be the person whose record you are asking for, or you are the parent of a minor child whose record you are asking for. Also, in the case of a deceased person, you must have legal authority (i.e. POA) in order to administer an estate, etc., depending on the time frame. I recently obtained the DC of my husband's great-grandmother from Dayton, who died in 1949. I had to prove who he was and why we wanted it. I think things are not quite so rigid for older birth certificates, prior to 1930 (?) The rules have drastically changed in recent years, due to identity theft. I doubt that you will be able to obtain the BC's of George's children. Hello Dear List, I'm looking for a death certificate of a Gregory Yount. He was born Feb. 1946 and died May 1991. I'm hoping to find his mother and father's complete names and where he is buried. Is there anyone on the list that has access to a library that has the death records on file so that I don't have to go through Vital Records? Vital Records website is saying there is a three to six week wait list. I'm also looking for the birth records of Gregory Yount's children, born from 1972 through sometime in the 1980s. I think there were three children, but I don't have their first names. The mother of the first child was a Marilyn (maiden name unknown.) The first child may have been named Matthew Yount, but I'm not certain on that. The last two children had a different mother, name completely unknown. Thanks. I'm happy to pay postage or if you can scan and email the death certificate, and/or birth records that's even better! Nola Thacker Austin, TX nolabert@earthlink.net
