    3. Use the Old fashioned way to communicate, so why not send a one or two page letter to all addresses. In the letter ask the questions you want answered and ask for current email addresses. Detail who you are and how you think you link to the senior Howe(Great Uncle Bill). Provide each of them with a SASE (Self Addresses Stamped Envelope). Supply them with your name, Address, Phone# and your email. Billy Howe, 1133 Dayket Drive , Miamisburg OH Andrew Howe on Heincke Road ?Miamisburg OH Michaels Howe, 9th. 3. I have several marriage records from the late 1800s and early 1900s that only list the couple's names, the date and the judge's name. These are licenses, I guess, rather than certificates. Are there certificates or any other records that would give more information (like parents' names, witnesses, etc) for Dayton in that timeframe? I have a marriage affidavit from 1904 that lists parents, birthplace, residence, and spouse's name if previously married. Do these exist for the earlier marriages? Thanks. Sheri Prager California

There are many Ready and Shea families from County Kerry ... I have been looking there for nearly a year now without any luck. Maybe I've been looking in the wrong place. Your information could be an important clue. I've quickly searched a couple websites for records of Mary Ready and Thomas Ready in County Mayo, but again, no luck. It may be necessary to contact a researcher in Ireland. I've saved a copy of the 1860 Census record with the Ready family (spelled Rady by the census recorder) and can email it to you if you'd like. Just reply with your email address. The father is not shown with the family at this time (possibly died young) but this Mary born in 1841 has a brother named Thomas, so I'm sure it's the right family. You'll see another Ready family at the bottom of the page and Catherine Ready Shea (Shay) living next door. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ShanachieALP Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.montgomery/4588.4.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks for your quick response! The only lead I have for Mary Ready and County Mayo is that she apparently was fond of saying that she was "Mary (Ready) Ryan, from County Mayo, by God!" That's the family story, anyway :) I know very little about the Readys, except that on Mary's death certificate, her father is listed as "Thomas", that she was born in Ireland, and the dates I mentioned. I also believe that John Ryan (or his father, another John Ryan, married to Julia (last name unknown) lived in Cincinnati prior to moving to Dayton. Many of these Ryans are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, and I have a listing of the names and dates. Those include Julia, John, Mary (Ready) Ryan, and I believe there's a Dennis buried there as well. Perhaps a few others - I'd have to go check my records. Mary Ready and John Ryan's daughter, Kathryn Mary married my grandfather, Robert Clarence Patterson around 1906. Robert Clarence was an attorney, then a Common Pleas judge in Dayton for a number of years. They had three children: Robert William Patterson (who was mayor of Dayton from 1954 to 1960 or thereabouts). There was a twin boy who died shortly after their birth in 1908. Robert William married Virginia Karns, a well-known actress and singer, and they settled in Dayton. The second surviving child was Mary Elizabeth (Maribeth) Patterson, who married David Tarbell and lived in Cincinnati. The last surviving child was my father, John Ford Patterson, born in 1918, who married Barbara Burrows and they settled in Washington, DC where my siblings and I were born. This is probably too much information, but I'm hoping some of it will be helpful. What else can you tell me about the Readys? There is a Mary Ready, born in Ireland and age 19 in the 1860 Census, who is living next door to Catherine Ready Shea. I strongly suspect these families are related. There is another Mary Ready, age approx. 17 in 1860, who is living very near these other Ready families. I am certain this family is also related, and this Mary could possibly be your ancestor if the age is not recorded accurately. Do you know any more about this family in Dayton or Ireland? Also, what information do you have that points to County Mayo? Thanks - your information could be very helpful to me. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. List I realize Ryan and Shea and other Irish surnames are very common. I have some Ryan and Shea connections, but they are all from Iowa and Nebraska from the mid 1800's. My great great grandfather was Thomas RYAN. He married Mary SHEA My Great Grandfather was William Ryan. He married Annie Dougherty. My Grandmother was Augusta Ryan. She married John P. McFadden. Notes on the Ryan families: A June 26, 1880 Crawford County Iowa Census has James Ryan, age 48, farmer and wife Bridget, age 60, and son Mike age 18, tending farm. Don't know if this Thomas RYAN is a relative or not. Vail, Iowa Beginnings It was not until 1867 that the first settlers arrived at what was to become the town of Vail. Thomas Ryan, an employee of the Northwestern Railroad, arrived here that year. He had charge of the section in this area and lived in the section house built at the place where it was hoped to locate a town. In 1869 Mr. Ryan helped the surveyors lay out the town of Vail. Thomas Ryan was born in Tipperary. Ireland, and came to the United States in 1852. He led a life of adventure and hard work, spending several years steam boating on the Mississippi. During the war, he lived in Michigan, and after the war he entered the employ of the Northwestern Railroad. William Ryan traveled with his family from Vail, IA to Dixon, NE around 1900. Wm was the depot agent in Dixon (Chicago, Burlington & Quincey) and the family lived upstairs over the station. He also was the telegrapher and handled the incoming and outgoing freight.
