Author: r_a_green Surnames: Classification: immigration Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.montgomery/4663/mb.ashx Message Board Post: 19th CENTURY ATLAS, MAPS, HISTORICAL GUIDES & GAZETTEERS (includes publications from IA, IN, MN, OH and WI) http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/hgg.html Historians, genealogists and researchers of the 19th century Midwestern United States will find the vast amount of historical research material in these books and atlases on CD a very valuable resource. Each of these extensive gazeteer and immigrant guides contain the description of places and place names, many of which are no longer found on contemporary maps, including: cities, towns, villages, settlements, schools, post offices, transportation routes and schedules, and much more. Historical Guides and Gazetteer CD's may also include maps of the period providing cartographic reference to 19th century places identified and discussed in the literature. Also included are hundreds of advertisements by contributing businesses providing historical insight into the goods, services and the merchants that made them available during the 19th century. Anyone interested in the history of these regions will find this material useful. ------------------------------------------------------------ HISTORIC ATLAS SERIES (includes 19th century atlases of IA, IL, IN, KY, KS, MI, MN, NE, OH, PA, VA and WI) http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/has.html The Historic Atlas Series CD's are digital reproductions of 19th century maps and historical atlas data in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). The Adobe Reader software is required to view, manipulate and print PDF data is included on each CD. States with maps and atlases currently available are shown in the graphic to the right. 19th century geographic and statistical data are useful to historians, genealogists and researchers with an interest in the landscape and cultural setting of this period. Early county maps may contain many places that no longer exist or that have been obscured over time. Atlases with statistical data provide vivid detail of 19th century pioneer lifestyles. Details on early maps are often difficult to read and these are no exception; however, by virtue of the Adobe PDF formatting, these documents may be inspected and printed at high levels of magnification without additional digital distortion; something that simply cannot be accomplished with paper reproductions and photocopies. There is a vast amount of information that can be gleaned from these sources and the diligent researcher will find these cartographic resources useful in their studies. ------------------------------------------------------------ Good luck with your research! 3. Would the moderator please forward this email to the original poster. I do not respond to these Gateway posts. Carol, Your Louisa Fryback, and her brother William, are most likely the children of William Fryback. At least this is what I found in looking at the estates I have referenced. William died, presumably, in early 1846 as this was when a will was presented for probate. There is an administration on file for a William who had, amongst others, a son William and a daughter "Canitha Louiza". These are later listed as having a guardian assigned them. There is no spouse listed for William Fryback, Sr. The will was initially, at the time of the presentation for probate, refused, but later, in 1852, was proven and accepted for probate. The executors were Albert Huey and Benjamin Furnas. In looking at the offerings on Rootsweb I see that there was a William Fryback who had been born in Hampshire county, Virginia (now West Virginia) in 1793, who died in Montgomery county, Ohio in 1844. I would deem this Rootsweb posting as a very likely place to begin your search. I did look at my marriage collection of digitized records for Montgomery county, Ohio and there is no marriage listed for a William Fryback. Neither did I locate a marriage for a William Fryback, or any variants, in all of Ohio to 1850. The marriage, if the Virginia William Fryback is the correct one, may be in Virginia. I could not locate my CD for that state. Wayne Webb Past Editor: Brethren Roots Historian: German Baptist Church -----Original Message----- In our tree we have a Louisa Fryback, wife of Arthur J. Hartley. She was born on 22 Feb 1839 in Montgomery County, Ohio and died 20 Feb 1923 in Montgomery County, Ohio. We have found her Death Certificate and all of the information on it matches our family knowledge. So far we have managed to find her (spelled Friback in the census) as far back as the 1850 Fed. Census in Montgomery Co. Ohio as a 9 y/o living with Enoch Powell & Ellenor Powell. Also in that household is a William Friback (sp), 11 y/o, who we presume is likely her brother. Because Louisa & William were so young and living in the home of someone with a different surname, we also presume that their parents might have died and that they were taken up by the Powells. We know that Enoch Powell was from Pennsylvania, according to the 1850 Fed. Census but we cannot figure out if he was a relative of theirs or not. We have been told that the surname Powell is a well-established Quaker name in Ohio, if that helps anyone.

    3. Dear Peggy: Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and a number of other libraries such as the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County have purchased from the Ohio Historical Society microfilm of death certificates. These cover only 1908-1953 or 1954. They will not cover 1959. After 1953 or 1954 (sorry, I forget which year it is) they are considered active vital records and only official certified versions are available. You can get a certified copy from Montgomery County Vital Statistics or the Ohio Department of Health. It costs $16.50 - $18.50 depending on the source. Some government agencies add a tax that goes toward children's services. http://phdmc.controlpanel2.donet.com/index.php?/programs/vital_statistics/death_certificates/ Montgomery County http://www.odh.ohio.gov/vitalstatistics/vitalstats.aspx Ohio Health Department Also, the LDS is testing out supplying Ohio Death Certificates for 1908-1953 for FREE. It will not include 1959. You may or may not get this site to work as it is still in testing: http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0 The Ohio Historical Society can supply a Death Certificate for 1908-1953 for $7.00, but not 1959. http://ohsweb.ohiohistory.org/death//advsearch.cfm We can look for an obituary which may be in the Dayton Journal Herald or Dayton Daily News, but we do not have 1959 death certificates. Contact me with the name of the deceased, city of residence, and death date and I will see if I can find the obituary. Shawna Woodard Genealogy Librarian Dayton Metro Library 215 E. Third St. Dayton, OH 45402 937-496-8653 swoodard@daytonmetrolibrary.org Donations of compiled family histories, Montgomery County yearbooks, or money to purchase genealogical materials gladly accepted. ________________________________ From: montgomery_co_oh-bounces@rootsweb.com on behalf of montgomery_co_oh-request@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue 12/2/2008 3:00 AM To: montgomery_co_oh@rootsweb.com Subject: MONTGOMERY_CO_OH Digest, Vol 3, Issue 220 Today's Topics: 1.
