Surnames: Mcfry Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BMB.2ACE/404.478.1 Message Board Post: Hello Gerald - Believe that the information you gave on Andrew James McFry is not correct. Been researching this branch of the McFrye family and feel that AJ McFry in the 1850 Census living with the Charles P Hutton who then marries the Mary L the daugther in this family is Andrew John McFry and that he is from Missouri and not England. As you follow him and his family through the years in the census and look at the actual census information and not what others have recorded, it never does have him coming from England and never is the J. in his name used as James. Below is summary of census info- 1850 -AJ McFry in Jones Iowa place of birth as Missouri 1860 -Andrew J McFry interpreted as birth inWisconsin but in original census (Mis rather than Wis) looks like it could mean Missouri. 1870 - A. John McFry birth place NY - but all other family members(wife and childern) are listed correctly- from all three census have conclude that his name was Andrew John McFry and he was born in Missouri. by 1880 he is no longer listed with his family but the members of his family ( I am following his son Albert E.) list the birth place of their father as Missouri. McFry family that was originally in Jones Iowa is now in Nebraska. Believe at this time AJ has left his family and could have remarried – AJ was in the civil war and family did apply for pension – in this record is listed an additional women who tried to get pension under his name – listed a Armada McFry and that her claim had been contested. So that your story that he remarried and members of that family live in Colorado makes sense. Hve found AJ McFry buried in Oklahoma with reference to his Civil War #. I feel that Andrew John McFry was one of the older children of George and Theodocia (Docia) McFry. It is said that they had 8 children*** but you do not see them until 1850 Census and at this time they are in their 40's and only 4 children are listed. Older children would have left home by now. AJ was born in 1826 and George and Docia (1803 and1808) This makes it very possible that AJ could have been there son. Also Docia father was Andrew Romine and it appears Andrew Romine father was John. It is highly possible that one of George and Docia’s first child’s name would be Andrew John. 1830 Census has George McFry having one one under the age of 5 which would correspond to age of AJ McFry. What do you think? just can't get the England connection - what are your sources. My connection to the McFry's is that my greatgrandmother (Christine Flett) married one of AJ McFry's sons - Albert E.McFrye (e has been added to name) Do know that you were in contact with the Indiana relations - Robert McFrye - His father ( Harry) was a son of Albert and Christine. *** reference that there were 8 children and that those born before 1850 may not be listed" Biographical Sketch of George W. McFry, Jefferson County, Missouri "George W. McFry, sheriff of Jefferson County, Mo., is a native of thatcounty, born in Big River Township, May 1, 1843 and is the seventh ofeight children born to George and Docia (Romine) McFry, natives of SC and Kentucky" Another Biographical reference - Has Dr. Arnandus Crull - "in 1849 married Miss Mary Ann, Daughter of George and Dosia McFry, who were among the early settlers of Jefferson County" Anette Brigham anebri@msn.com
