Surnames: Stephenson, Griffith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BMB.2ACE/1163 Message Board Post: My gr-gr-grandmother, Louisa Griffith Stephenson, wife of David Stephenson, died on 22 September, 1898, and is buried in the Woodland Cemetery in Richmond, Mo. It is thought by her descendants that she was visiting a brother where she died and her burial was there. The Stephenson family were longtime residents of Maryville and vicinity. Is there any mention of her death in any of the Maryville newspapers that were being published at the time? I would be most grateful for any information someone could provide on her death and burial. Thank your for your time, Dennis

    1. Bassford - Nodaway and Beloit KS??
    2. Karren Amaro
    3. Hi, I would like to correspond with anyone researching the surname Bassford. I saw something online that appeared to be some connection between Bassfords (1865-1870) in Nodaway and later at Beloit, Osborne County KS. I'm researching someone who sold land to some Bassfords at Sweet Home in Nodaway (1868)and a related person who eventually ends up in the Osborne/Mitchell County area of Kansas in 1879. I'd like to find out if there is any connection........the person I'm researching may have been a servant in Kansas and she grew up in Nodaway. Just trying to find out how she came to be in KS...........wondering if she might have worked for the Bassfords. You can e-mail me directly at: skyghost@kc.rr.com Thanks! Karren A.

    1. India Ann KENYON - Henry H. HEDGPETH
    2. K. Stewart
    3. Hello, I'm not related to either of these families, but I do have a copy of the book "Methodism, Maryville Missouri," by Mary Evans Wright, published by the Rush Printing Company, Maryville, in 1961. There are a couple of paragraphs having to do with Mr. & Mrs. Hedgpeth and the Hedgpeth family: "It was the general plan of the Church for the Presiding Elder to visit each circuit or station four times a year to check on the progress, the religious as well as the financial condition of the Church in that locality. These meetings, which usually lasted a couple of days, were called quarterly meetings. "Many of these early meetings were held at the home of Joel Hedgpeth, who was a class leader and lived about one mile southeast of the present (1957) town of Graham. He had five sons and two daughters: Thomas Riley, Henry Holland, John Lewis, Joel, William, Minerva, and Elizabeth. All of the sons became ministers in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Thomas Riley was minister of the Maryville Circuit in 1874-75, and Henry H. was presiding elder of this (the St. Joseph) district in 1865-66. Henry H. Hedgpeth, second son of Joel and Jane (Hudspeth--Jane's maiden name) Hedgpeth, migrated with his parents from Kentucky to the Platte Purchase. This was one of the earliest families to locate in Nodaway County. "Henry Hedgpeth married Miss India Ann Kenyon of New Ark, Missouri (now known as Fillmore), where they established their home during the eleven years Henry spent riding on horse-back most of the time--sometimes walking through mud and swimming rivers--over his circuit which extended from the Missouri River on the west and south and as far east as Brunswick, Missouri. Henry entered the Missouri Conference in 1852 and eleven years later was transferred to the Kansas Conference. He died February 15, 1869. Both he and his wife are buried at New Ark (Fillmore)." (from page 38) There are various other mentions in the book about the other Hedgpeth brothers and I'd be happy to mail you the entire chapter of the book if you're interested. Just email me personally and give me your mailing address. Hope this was helpful to you. Karen Stewart
