If that is our Aretha, her parents are Peter and Anna. The location of the family and the age of Aretha seem to fit. I found Peter in a later census (I believe the 1880) living in a boarding house in St. Joseph, MO, but I haven't found anything else about the rest of the family. A cousin and I visited the NW MO area where we know the Nugents lived and talked to some of the knowledgeable locals who gave us a list of names suspected to be buried in an abandoned cemetery. (It was just across the road from the Nugent homeplace.) While there were some members of a Wood family named on the list, there was no Aretha. When we visited the cemetery (climb the fence, cross the creek, and walk through overgrown areas), we could tell it was a cemetery, but could find no names on grave markers. Many of the markers had been knocked over, and the area was really overgrown. ! Apparently, the location has prevented anyone from getting mowers or any other type of equipment in to try to repair and keep it up.

Surnames: Ennen, Baumann, Cuttrell, Raff Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BMB.2ACE/1212 Message Board Post: Hi all, I'm researching the family of Johann Dietrich Ennen and Lena Bauann that ended up in the town of Elmo in Nodaway County in the 1920 census. He went by Dick or Dietrich in most public records and she appears as Lena, Paulina or Paula. He was born in 1852 in Germany, is present in 1920 and has died before 1930. She was born in 1858 at sea (listed as "at sea" or Louisiana) on the way from Germany. Their children were unmarried in Oklahoma in 1910 so I don't know if they married by the time they moved to Nodaway County or not. Daughter Katie age 22 was still with them in 1920 so she likely did marry there, the others were a son John (wife Grace Cuttrell?), so Herman (wife Rose Cuttrell?), son Louis (wife Ethel Raff?) and daughter Anna b 1895. Are there any indexes of death records for the county in the 1920s that could help find a death date for Dietrich? Or perhaps someone knows where he and Paula/Lena are buried and their stones would help? Also, I greatly appreciate it if someone could check the Nodaway County marriages to see if there are any Ennen's listed? They moved around quite a bit and it's been difficult to know just what to look for where! From 1875 to early 1880's they were in central Illinois, then to Nebraska til early 1890s, then in Custer County, OK til at least 1910, then they were off to Nodaway County by 1920 thru at least 1930. Thanks for any help with this family! Darren

I bought it from the Nodaway County Genealogical Society in Maryville, MO. It was only $30 and is a wonderful source. I looked up James Adams and Emma Lee and they are listed just like that. No middle letters. Married April 5, 1874, Book 4, Page 228.

She said that she had a Nodaway County, Mo. Marriage CD that has information about marriages that took place in Nodaway County from June 1845 to May 2003. I believe that is what she said . This CD was done by the Nodaway County, MO. Genealogical Society, Inc. it seems. Would any more copies of this CD be for sale? I would like confirmation from that CD of my great grandparent's marriage on April 5, 1874 if Cathy or anyone else who has this CD can find it on the CD. Their names are - James Monroe ADAMS and Emma LEE. I had some information before, that this was the date of their marriage in Nodaway County but want to check before requesting a copy of their marriage record. Again, if that information is correct, where do I request a copy of their marriage record? And.....where can I go to join the Genealogical Society of Nodaway County? I need information about both the LEE family and the ADAMS families - births, deaths and etc. I need to know if a George LEE, who was Emma's father, was naturalized and became a citizen in Nodaway County. Where would I look to find this information?
Cathy, Do you know if the Nodaway County Courthouse also has birth recrods that they would look up? Do they charge for this? Thanks. Kathy
