    1. George S. Baker - 1860's Nodaway
    2. Karren Amaro
    3. Hi, My research time frame is the 1850 - 1870 Is anybody on the list researching a George S. Baker? He was a business man in Nodaway County MO. I need to know if this guy was related in any way to a couple of Baker brothers in Council Grove KS. Council Grove was a major hub on the Santa Fe Trail. The brothers were A. J. Baker and Josh Baker. They had a sister named Eliza Baker who married T. S. Huffaker. Huffaker ran the Methodist Mission to the Kaw Indians at Council Grove Kansas in the 1850's. The Baker brothers were active in the Indian trade near Council Grove in the 1850's. If there is any connection, I'd be glad to share the info I have. It's been awhile since I worked on the Bakers so forgive me if I've asked about this before. Thanks! Karren A.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hunt, Wilcox Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BMB.2ACE/1226 Message Board Post: 'Rowena Permelia Hunt, daughter of Lyman and Harriet Hunt, was born in Andrew County, February 19, 1856. She came with her parents to Nodaway County at about five years of age, and has resided here since that time. She departed this life July 13, 1925, at the age of 69 years, 4 months and 24 days. She was united in marriage to Willis Wilcox, March 29, 1874. To this union were born nine children, of whom five are still living. She was a good wife and a loving mother. She was very fond of her children, and ever taught them to do right. Her devotion to the home was her chief joy. She loved the Bible and read it often for the joy and consolation it afforded her. The relatives who survive her are: Her husband, Willis Wilcox, who resides on his farm about four miles north of Ravenwood; the five children, two boys and three girls--Lawrence and Varvil Wilcox; Mrs. J. E. Porter and Mrs. Elnora Moore all of Harmony community and Mrs. Carrie Strader of Colorado Springs, Colo.; also nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren; four brothers, V. O. and Marion Hunt of Ravenwood, Alfred Hunt of Harmony vicinity and Milton Hunt of Ridgeway, Colo., and one sister Mrs. Addie Case of California. The funeral services were conducted at the home Thursday, July 16, at 2:00 p. m. by Rev. R. Underwood, pastor of Harmony Church. The choir was composed of Mr. John Edwards, Mrs. Ova Heflin, Mrs. Gladis King, Mrs. Estella Porter and Mrs. Edith Hedrick. The flower girls were Misses Leatha and Lucile Lawson, Alice Morin. The pall bearers consisted of the six grand sons: Vilas, Everett, Floran, Darl and Oral Porter and Willis Wilcox. The floral offerings were very beautiful and speaks as only flowers do of the esteem which the departed held in the hearts of those who offered them. The body now sleeps in the Parnell cemetery to await the resurrection morn.' I do not have the name of the newspaper this was in. I thought that some of the names in this obit would help family researchers.

Surnames: Brown, Patton, Stephenson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BMB.2ACE/1222 Message Board Post: The Brown household consisted of the following persons: John Brown, age 35, farmer, born in Tennessee Sarah Brown, age 23, housekeeping, born in Missouri Charles Brown, age 3, born in Missouri The next household was as follows: William Patton, age 22, farm laborer, born in Missouri My gr-grandfather, Charles Patton Brown, was supposedly born ca. 1854, in Missouri. His parents were rumored to be Jacob/John & Sarah Brown. It appears to me that Sarah Brown & William Patton may have been siblings and possibly my gr-grandfather received the middle name of Patton from Sarah Patton Brown. Does anyone have any information on these 2 households? Charles Patton Brown died in 1936, but no proof of his parents' names or whether he had any siblings was found. Charles Brown married America ( Addie ) Stephenson in Nodaway County, ca. 1881. I would certainly appreciate any information on the above people. Thank you, Dennis

My g-grandmother was Mary Margaret Norrick (Kyler) b 13 July 1855 in Bowerston, Harrison Co, Ohio. Her mother was Margaret Johnston (Norrick), b 23 Sept 1834 also in Bowerston. Her husband was Jacob Norrick, b 19 June 1834 in Scio, Harrison Co, Ohio. They came to Nodaway Co from Ohio by boat in the late 1860's. They had 9 daughters. I know about the first 2. I'm curious about the other 7. The other daughters are: #3 Elizabeth Jane (Eliza) b 4 April 1858 #4 Christina, b 6 May 1860 #5 Martha Alice, b 28 Feb 1862 #6 Glenna Cecillia (Clementine), b 6 April 1865 #7 Laura Bell, b 5 April 1867 #8 Jane (Jenny), b 2 April 1870 #9 Lulu Dean, b 31July 1872 Both Jacob & Margaret Norrick are buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery, near Maryville. I would be interested in any info regarding this family, especially the daughters, who they married? Did they stay in the area or move? If so, where to?
