Hello, I have just received a marriage certificate dated 1933 from Cardiff and where it says in the presence of us there is the usual two names but by the first name it also says L.P. Given, can anybody tell me what this means as I have never seen this before. Thanks for any help. Regards, Syd
If one of the parties was a minor, that is not old enough to marry without parental permission, L.P.Given might mean Legal Permission Given or something similar. At one time I think that members of the regular army also needed permission to marry. Whether that still applied in 1933 I don't know. Prisoners allowed out of prison to marry might also need permission. Unless of course there was an extra witness called L.P.Given Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: "Syd and Judy" <syd@sydandjudy.freeserve.co.uk> To: <monmouthshire@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 16, 2012 7:05 PM Subject: [MON] MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE > > Hello, > I have just received a marriage certificate dated 1933 from > Cardiff > and where it says in the presence of us there is the usual two names but > by > the first name it also says L.P.
