    1. [MON] Help please with LAWRENCE Family

    3. Hello everyone, I am hoping someone on the ground there or through better searching knowledge than I have can help. I am trying to gain information on my GGGGrandfather Thomas LAWRENCE. I have found him and his family in the 1851 Census. According to that he was born in St. Mellons about 1813. His wife Jane was born in Newport about 1823. I have matched Jane and Thomas in a marriage in 1843 and her maiden name is EVANS. They have 4 sons, Edwin 1845, John F 1847, Charles 1849 and Thomas 1851. I have been able to move forward and find information on some of their children, particularly Thomas LAWRENCE born 1851 - my GGGrandfather. In the 1861 Census two daughters have been born after four sons. Jane is now widowed so I think Thomas has died between 1858 and 1861 because Mary Jane is only 2 years of age. Thomas and his 4 sons were Colliers and Thomas worked in Glamorganshire for a period of time where Edwin was born. Between the 1861 and 1871 Census Jane died as the young Thomas and Caroline are living with Edwin the oldest son of Thomas senior. If anyone can help me with information about Thomas LAWRENCE prior to the 1851 census, ie, his parents or birth/baptism or death information I would be very grateful. Or any other information about Jane would be appreciated. I hope I haven't overloaded you with too much information as this is the first request for me and I am so glad I found this help group. I can provide more info or attach the census docs if required. Cheers, Gillian Melbourne
