Hi Bob I stayed overnight at the West Usk lighthouse - now an unusual B&B - a couple of years ago and went for a meal in St Brides! I couldn't find William in 1861 but ten years earlier he was living in St Brides with his mother Blanche and three siblings (twins David and John aged 10, and Isaac aged 6). Blanche had married a farmer called Adam Williams and they already had a daughter of their own - Sarah aged 3. Everyone in the house was born in St Brides except Blanche, who was born up the road in Bassaleg (now a suburb of Newport).
