Can any one please help as we appear to have hit a brick wall Unable to locate a William Smith who was born approximately 1817.. The 1861 census for Blaina Monmouthshire states that he was born in Westbury Somerset.We have checked all the Parishes around Westbury in Somerset to no avail. The 1871 Census Blaina Monmouthshire states he was born in Devonshire.Unfortunately we cannot locate him on the 1851 and he was deceased prior to the 1881 census..Any ideas would be appreciated Val & John Lewis

Hi Val and John. I too, have a William SMITH in my tree but don't think he is 'yours'. Mine born in Pontypool in 1852 and ended up in Bundaberg in Australia. He did go on and marry Mary Ann COLEMAN form Blaina though! There are two Westburys in the West Country that I know of - Westbury in Wiltshire, not too far from Trowbridge. Westbury-on-Trym near to Bristol. I know its in Wiltshire, but could he have been from that one? Dear Val & John Your brick wall will be difficult to break down. However, if William Smith ws married, a copy of his marriage certificate will, hopefully, give his father's name and occupation. That might be helpful to you.
