My grandfather was William Jelly, born in Blaina in 1873. I have a photo of him with his bassoon in an orchestra. This must have been around the Blaina area as he did not live in any other area. I am drawing a blank as to the name of the orchestra and wondered if anyone could help. I have had plenty of suggestions for brass and silver bands, however this is definitely an orchestra as there are men with violins. In 1875 the Pleasant Sunday Afternoon movement started, and many orchestras were formed to play sacred music in churches and chapels throughout Wales and England.
