Dear List, Does anyone know the family of Theophilus Rosser Jones? According to the baptism of his base daughter Bithiah on the 13th December 1819 he was an agent. He married Bithiah's mother Mary Williams of Cadoxton, Glam from the marriage licence dated 15th December 1820. Theophilus was a widow on the marriage to Mary. I believe he was an underground surveyor from the 1881 census where his widow says that she is an underground agents widow. I have googled Theophilus Rosser Jones and the only one that comes up is one who was convicted for extortion at Brecon Assizes on 22nd March 1834 and sentenced to 14 years and transportation on the William Metcalf to Van Diemens Land. He is listed as being on the prisonship William Metcalf. He was transported on the 23rd May 1834. I downloaded his will from the National Archives. The will, dated 6th May 1851, amongst other things mentions David Marsden son of Jonathon Marsden of Llanfair Mines, Montg. who married Eliza Jenkins bapt 21/5/1817 at Bedwelty on 15th October 1838. Eliza Jenkins was the daughter of Richard Jenkins 1776 - 1843 of the Black Prince Inn (amongst others). I know therefore that I have the correct will. I can find no death for him in Bedwelty or Tredegar around 1851. His will shows that he left a considerable amount of goods and property. There are plenty of Theophilus Jones around but not Theophilus Rosser Jones and that is the name on all the information that I have. I cannot believe that there are two Theophilus Rosser Jones in Bedwelty at the same time - does anyone know anything different please? thank you Diana
