Hello Diana, I have no connection to your Ancestry but on the 1871 Census George Thomas Hodge was married and living with wife named Phoebe in Ebbw Vale, no other person was listed, also found them in 1881 living in Tredegar and George Thomas Hodge in 1891 was a widower. I did find a marriage in 1870 for George Thomas Hodge and on the same page was a Phoebe Jenkins but to verify this you would need to obtain either the marriage certificate or a birth cerificate of one of the children. Regards Barbara
Dear Barbara, thank you for your reply. I will send for the certificate as I agree this is the only way to be absolutely sure but I think it is the correct pairing as I cross checked the other people on the page. Also in the 1881 census they are at the Black Prince Inn, Circle, Tredegar and in the 1891 census at 3 Morgan St. Tredegar which I think is the address of the Black Prince as well. Phoebe nee Jenkins is the daughter of my great x 2 grandfather Isaac Jenkins 1811 Bedwelty and great x 3 grandfather Richard Jenkins of the Black Prince Inn, Tredegar 1776 - 1843. In the 1861 census of Llanfoist Phoebe Jenkins is living with her sister Agnes (my great grandmother) and their Uncle Thomas Jenkins and Aunt Marianne nee Mainwaring (daughter of Samuel Mainwaring, Governor of Crickhowell workhouse) as their father Isaac died in 1854 and their mother Elizabeth died in 1860. There is another sister who survived called Eliza Ann(1841 Tredegar) and I think that she married William Holder of Gloucestershire. Phoebe Hodge died April - June 1889 aged 44 which is also the correct age for Phoebe nee Jenkins. I have recently been coming forward rather than backwards! If this is of any help to anyone then do contact me. with best wishes Diana ----- Original Message ----- From: <B1oatley@aol.com> To: <monmouthshire@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2007 8:21 PM Subject: Re: [MON] George Thomas Hodge of Tredegar > Hello Diana, > I have no connection to your Ancestry but on the 1871 Census George Thomas > Hodge was married and living with wife named Phoebe in Ebbw Vale, no other > person was listed, also found them in 1881 living in Tredegar and George > Thomas > Hodge in 1891 was a widower.
