Can anyone help me with the following family please as I have hit a brick wall - so what's new everyone asks!!! >From information on the 1901 census I have James Willliams (46) living at 21 Riverside, Maindee Newport along with wife Amelia (33) and children Nellie 6, Amelia 4 and Thomas 1 + Nellie F Richardson, niece aged 11 and I know this to be the correct family as Nellie was sent to live with her mother's family after her death However I found a marriage certificate for James Williams and Amelia George in 1894 which ties up with the ages of the children but on the certificate it gives James as being 31 (ie b1863) and Amelia 25 (ie b1869). Amelia's I can understand as that is about 2 years different from what I had worked out but James' age should have been 39/40! James's father is down as being Thomas Williams, farmer deceased. I am looking for James and Harriet in the 1871 census to see if there is another child Elizabeth on this census as she is the mother of Nellie Florence, niece aged 11. I think she would have been older than James. There is a more obvious connection to this family in that Nellie Florence also had the christian name of Church - ie Nellie Florence Church Richardson and the first child of James and Amelia is Nellie Church Williams. If anyone can help with this census I would be most grateful. So he lied about his age when he got married, perhaps he didn't want anyone thinking that he was "cradle-snatching if he was really ten years older than his bride. I would obtain his birth certificate before making any definite decisions about his age.
