Thanks Barbara, The only hint of birthplaces I have are from the 1861 census: for Jane WATERS, "Stepinage", Herts (which must be Stevenage) and for William, Llanthiwy (Llanddewi Fach) MON (which I have n ot yet located. I have not chased down Wm. yet, but Jane's b. or bap. does not appear in the IGI. Arnold WATERS, listed as Jane's father, and a carpenter on her m. cert. seems to have had previous connection with Caerleon or somewhere else in MON because that name appears as a witness in numerous marriages from about 1770 on. I'm reasonably sure this is my tribe because of the appearance of "Augustus" Do you have any idea where "Chestowe Hill" is? Thanks again for your help. M. Elliot-Jones
