Good morning, list, I am seeking information about my great-grandparents. William HUGHES was born in November 1839, seemingly in Tredegar. There is no record of him in either the GRO births list nor in the IGI index. From his marriage certificate in 1864 at Siloh Chapel, Tredegar, I know that his father was also William, and he is shown as 'butcher, deceased'. His wife, Sarah BENNETT, was born in 1844 - I have her birth certificate. She was the daughter of Daniel BENNETT and Mary (nee REES). For some strange reason, William seems to have also escaped the census returns. There is a man on the 1871 census who might be him, but there is no trace before that in any of the preceding three censuses, something which might give me more information about his immediate family. He and the other members of the Hughes family appear to be a brick wall. Can anyone help with a butcher called William Hughes in the immediate area of Tredegar? I have considered the possibility that he might not have been born in the town, but in some outlying village, but not being familiar with the area, I'm at a loss where to search next. TIA, Iain Parsons.
