Have you paid more than £7 for a copy certificate from a Register Office? I recently ordered a copy birth certificate, giving the date of birth, from the Tredegar Office and included a cheque for £7, plus a stamped addressed envelope. A few days later a telephone call informed me that the charge was £10. I assumed that the £7 charge was a national one and queried why the charge was £10. I was informed that this is the charge which the office makes. I must have ordered at least 50 certificates during the past 5 years from various English and Welsh offices, but this is the first time that I have been charged more than £7. Is it correct that offices can set their own charges? Eric Davies
