Western Mail Monday May 24th 1926. The funeral of Mr. Samuel BENNETT, J.P., Newport-road, Cardiff, took place on Saturday. A large gathering attended the services at Roath-road, Wesleyan Church and at the cemetery, conducted by the Rev. C. FENELEY (pastor of Roath-road), the Rev. C.H. HARPUR, the Rev. W.J. BECKETT, and the Rev. H.O. HUGHES. Floral tributes from various public bodies and friends were numerous. The chief mourners were Mrs. BENNETT (widow), Mr. and Mrs. Hal BENNETT (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Percy WATSON (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert WATSON (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. F.T. SECCOMBE (son-in-law), Mr. John BENNETT (brother), Mr. and Mrs. R. LEYSHON, Miss BENNETT, Miss A. BENNETT, Mrs. J. BENNETT, Mr. Arthur BENNETT, Mrs. Gertrude BENNETT, Mrs. Mabel BENNETT, Mrs. Ada LAWS, Mr. Thurlow LAWS and Mrs. LAWS, and Mrs. Amy BENNETT. There was then a long list of other mourners. The funeral took place at Cardiff Cemetery on Saturday of Mr. Thomas JOHN, Malefant-street, Cathays, who had been in business as a printer and stationer at Hayes Bridge, Cardiff for many years. The chief mourners were Mrs. M.E. JOHN (widow), Messrs. H.B. JOHN, H.M. JOHN, H.G. JOHN, and A.E. JOHN (sons) Mrs. W. DAY, Miss D.M. JOHN, Miss E.E. JOHN, and Miss E.L. JOHN (daughters), Mr. W. E.L. DAY (son-in-law), Mrs. C.S. JOHN (daughter-in-law), Mrs. STREET, Mrs. VENN, and Mrs. HUNT (sisters). The officiating clergymen were the Rev. A. J. EDWARDS (vicar) and the Rev. A.WILLIAMS. The remains of Mr. William Rees LLOYD, chairman of Coedffranc Parish Council and the Skewen and Neath Abbey Co-operative Society, deacon and trustee of Tabernacle Congregational Church, were laid in Skewen Churchyard on Saturday afternoon. The bearers were as follows:- Messrs. George DAWKINS and Tom LLOYD, D.C. (Tabernacle Church), T. WILLIAMS and S. JONES (Co-operative Society), W.P. JENKINS, C.C., and W.H. POWELL, (Labour Party), and Evan JONES and David EVANS, (Winders Union). The officiating ministers were vthe Revs. J. Evans JONES (Tabernacle), D.H DAVIES, T. MORGAN, and A.G. JAMES. The mourners included:- Messrs. William REES, Rees DAVIES, and D. FRANCIS, (uncles), the Rev. David LEWIS, Ammanford, Messrs. Thomas DAVIES and Evan LEWIS (brothers-in-law), the Rev. T. Mardy REES, F.R.Hist.S., the Rev. J. Caerau REES, D.D., Messrs. William ISAAC, and David LLOYD, T. BEVAN, D.J. RICHARDS, Dan MORGAN, Idris JONES, Idris and Jenkin EVANS, W.J. REES, G. RAIKES, Dan JONES, Evan JONES, Ed. LEWIS, W. JOHN, and D. JOHN, (cousins), T.E.D.J. GWYNFA, and Emlyn DAVIS (nephews). The funeral of Mr. D. WARD, Post Office, Gowerton, took place on Saturday at the Gowerton Cemetery. Mr. WARD, who was 75 years of age, had been postmaster at Gowerton for 30 years. He had been an active member of the sporting institutions of the village, particularly of the bowling club. The Rev. Ll.J. ROBERTS (vicar) officiated. The mourners were : Messrs. Alf. WARD (son), J. SMITH (son-in-law), W.J. HARRIS, T. THOMAS, J. BEVAN, and H. SUTCLIFFE. The funeral took place at Nebo Churchyard, Cefn Cribbwr, on Saturday of Mrs. Jane ROBERTS. aged 74, of Clydach Vale. Most of the public bodies in the Rhondda were represented at the funeral. The chief mourners were Messrs. David, Garfield, and Hewart ROBERTS (sons), Mr. and Mrs. David STEPHENS, Mrs. Mary WILLIAMS, Mrs. Amy ROBERTS, Master David ROBERTS, Messrs. Willie and Tom REES, W. LEYSHON, (Bridgend), Eben. DAVIES, T. DAVIES, (Bridgend), E.M. REES, (Cefn), and D. MORGAN, (Clydach Vale). The Rev. David DAVIES (Calfaria) officiated at the house, and was assisted at the graveside by the Rev.-. BOWEN, Laleston. The funeral of the late Rev. Thomas REES, M.A., Ph.D., principal of the Independent College, Bangor, will leave Euston to-morrow (Tuesday) at 8.30 a.m., arriving at Bangor at 3.45 p.m. The interment will take place immediately on arrival, and a memorial service will be held the same evening. The death of Mr. D.A. SUTHERLAND, the Swansea bowler, was referred to in touching terms at a gathering at Bryn-road green, Swansea, by Mr. J.H. LEE (chairman of Swansea Bowls Club). The ground is to be shut to-day (Monday) on the occaision of the funeral. The quarterly meeting of the South Wales Brass Band Association was held at the Forresrers'-hall, Cardiff, on Saturday, Mr. George ROGERS, Merthyr, presiding. About 35 bands were represented. Mr. ROGERS stated that on Whit-Tuesday a contest would be held at Merthyr, and eight bands would be present. Mr. D.J. STEVEN (Ystrad Mynach) was selected as the adjudicator. Mr. Hui T. RICHARDS gave a statement of accounts for the Pontypool Annual Festival, which was accepted. Certificates were given to the successful bands at that contest. WENVOE SALE OF WORK. Miss Una THOMPSON opened a very successful sale of work at Wenvoe, held under the auspices of of the Wenvoe Church Sewing Class (president and patron, Mrs. JENNER, Wenvoe Castle). There were brisk sales at the stalls, which comprised utility needlework stall, by the sewing class; pot plants and flowers, by Mrs. Claude THOMPSON; pound stall, by Mrs. F.S. FRANCIS and Mrs. P. DAVISON; sweet stall, by Miss Una THOMPSON; St. Lythan's farm produce stall; tea, by Mesdames Mc GREGOR, Frank FRANCIS, Gwilym THOMAS, and Miss FISHLOCK. Palmist: Mrs. SPIRRELL. John Patrick
