Following the death on Sunday of Mr. Thomas William GAYDON 73, a retired Swansea jeweller, at the residence of his son-in-law, M,r. Herbert HENDERSON, a well known Cardiff coal exporter of Glasfryn, Dinas Powis, Mrs Kate GAYDON, the widow, died with tragic suddenness early on Tuesday morning at the same house in the presence of her three daughters, Mrs. GAYDON, was 69, years of age. Mr. Daviud REES, (Divisional Coroner) held an inquest on Mrs. GAYDON at Dinas Powis on Tuesday, when her son-in-law, Mr. HENDERSON, stated that she expired almost without warning after a brief heart attack. Dr. W.V. GABE attributed her death to an affection of the heart, accelerated by her husband's recent death. Mr. REES, commenting on the rarity of such a double tragedy,returning a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony. Evidence given at the inquest held by Mr. R.J. RHYS on Tuesday on Rees MORGAN, whose body was recovered from the Tynewydd Reservoir, Treherbert, on Sunday evening, was to the effect that he had injured his back at the Tydraw Colliery, Treherbert, two years ago, and had been depressed of late because he had not recovered from the accident. A verdict of "Suicide by drowning whilst of unsound mind," was recorded. Returning a verdict of Suicide whilst of unsound mind" at the inquest held at Whitchurch on Tuesday on John Noel QUINLAN 31, a slaughterman, of 73, Constellation-street, Splott, who was found hangind from a tree near the Cross Inn, Llanedyrne, on Sunday morning, the East Glamorgan Coroner (Mr. David REES) said QUINLAN had obviously suffered from the effects of Army service and imprisonment as a prisoner of war. Evidence showed that ever since he came back from Germany, where he had been a prisoner of war for nine to twelve months, QUINLAN'S nerves had been shattered. He had never, however, threatened to do anything to himself. The necessity for some protection on the river bank at Treforest was emphasised by Mr. David REES (district coroner) at the inquest at Treforest on Tuesday on Beryl May HUGHES 5, daughter of Mr. John HUGHES, labourer, of Castle-street, who fell into the river near a wall on a plot of ground close to the Labour-hall, Treforest. While with another little girl picking ivy leaves the child slipped and fell over the bank at a spot where there was no protection. A verdict of "Accidental death" was recorded, Dragging operations for the body of Mr. Harry GALLOP, the Canton lorry-driver who was drowned in the Maindy Pool on Monday evening, were carried on from an early hour on Tuesday morning without success. Crowds watched the search. An attempt is now being made to lift the lorry, so that if the body is underneath it can rise to the surface. A verdict of "Death from suffocation, due to an epileptic seizure," was recorded by Mr. R.J. RHYS, at an inquest held on Tuesday at Aberdare on Richard Davies BOWEN 33, a single man living in Abernant-road, Aberdare said to be an aerial engineman, who was found dead in bed on Saturday morning. Edwin TUCKER, an elderly man, of Thornhill-street, was charged in the Cardiff Stipendiary's Court on Tuesday with having assaulted Frederick J. HARRIS, a lodger at his house. There was a cross charge also for assault. Mr. Barnett JANNER appeared for HARRIS. HARRIS said some point arose as to a new lodger going to the house. He said he would leave and gave notice to quit. Defendant hit him blows on the head with an iron poker, knocking him down and rendering him unconscious. He was taken to the infirmary by a police-constable. Police-sergeant PATTERSON, who visited the house, said that TUCKER'S statement to him was that HARRIS arrived home drunk, struck him in the face, and jumped at him. He thereupon used the poker in self defence. TUCKER was sent to prison for three months, with hard labour. The cross-charge against HARRIS was adjourned sine die.
