    3. Do you have a Thomas THOMAS individual in your family? Can you help eliminate the many that are in the area in the latter part of the 1700's and early part of 1800's? Would you be willing to share about your Thomas THOMAS to help tell which ones do not fit? I have a relative Hannah PITT that married a Thomas THOMAS in 1806 in Hereford, Herefordshire. She was christened/baptized in 1771 at Clodock Parish, Herefordshire, the eldest of six known children. Her death certificate tells of her death in 1868 at age 98 at Cusop, Herefordshire, the widow of Thomas THOMAS, occupation cooper. Do not know if this couple had children or not. Also do not know where Hannah was buried. Because of what is mentioned in wills, it appears Hannah's husband Thomas THOMAS died between 1832 when her father's will was written and 1840 when her brother's will was written. Hannah's sister Elizabeth (PITT) MEREDITH died in 1875 in Cusop, Herefordshire, age 91, but was buried in Clyro, Radnorshire as was Elizabeth's husband and their son that lived with them. They were farmers. Hannah's brother Henry PITT died in 1861 at Hay, Breconshire, age 77. He was a blacksmith and master whitesmith. Do not know if he had children. Hannah's brother James PITT Jr. died in Longtown, Herefordshire in 1843, age 70. He was a farmer. He may have had no children. Hannah's father James PITT Sr. lived at Nayadd Bach (name of a home or property it appears), Herefordshire and was buried at Michaelchurch Escley, Herefordshire in 1833 at age 93. It appears his wife Elinor and young daughter were also buried in Michaelchurch Escley, Herefordshire. His second wife Hannah (JENKINS) GWILLIM PITT was buried in Clodock, Herefordshire. MEREDITH nieces and nephews of Hannah (PITT) THOMAS ended up in Blaina and Abergavenny, Monmouthshire; near Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire; Hay plus Brynmawr in Llangattock Parish, Breconshire; Clyro, Radnorshire; Marizon, Cornwall, England; and the United States. Some of the next generation even ended up in South Africa and Australia! Have received a death certificate for a Thomas THOMAS that died at age 14, in Cusop, Herefordshire in 1838, son of Henry THOMAS, a blacksmith that does not fit our family. Does he fit in your family? Looking forward to hearing about Thomas THOMAS individuals to help unravel the puzzle. Ruth Ann Baker

    2. In a message dated 1/16/2007 9:35:13 AM Eastern Standard Time, email@lindakt.freeserve.co.uk writes: I have an Evans Evans in my family tree He is the son of Thomas and Charlotte EVANS born around 1816 He is the brother of my GRT GRT GRT Grandmother Mary Evans They were all born in the Bedwellty area regards Linda ======== Hi, Linda, and thank you for your response. What I know about the origin of my Evan Evans is that he was said in the 1841 Wales Census for Garndiffaith, Trevethin Parish, to have been b. MON and aged 25 (which given the rounding down of that Census to the nearest 5 yrs meant that he could have been up to 29 years of age). So the birth year range I have for him is c1812-1816. I do not know who his parents were, or his siblings, or where in MON he was born. I do have it established that he married Mary Joshua, and the union produced my G Grandmother Mary Ann Evans in Oct 1841. From the 1841 Census, it appears that Mary Ann was the third child born to Evan and Mary, the first being Anne c1835 and the second being David c1839. All of the children were b. Trevethin, MON. The IGI presents one marriage of an Evan Evans and a Mary Joshua. It was in Llanover, MON in 1831, and I verified that marriage in the Llanover BT. However, it is the only known or suspected connection of my Evan/Mary family to Llanover, so I am reluctant to claim it yet. So far it does not look like you and I have more than a possibility of a link, but I will certainly keep your post handy in the hope of future connecting developments. Regards, Cecil

    2. Hello Liz, I could only locate the second marriage in 1885 to Rachel, I did find a death of possibly his second child named Jesse who died at the age of 7 in the Jan-Feb-Mar Quarter of 1885. Have you got the details of what Elizabeth's maiden name was, because if you had that you may locate her record for the marriage, possibly Jesse may have been spelt differently and that is why his first marriage is not showing. 2. Harold W. Evans, M.D.
    3. Cecil, In the Bishops' Transcripts for 1725 - 1812 for the Diocese of Llandaff in Monmouth, on 27 Oct 1785, Edward, son of Edward John Evan by Mary his wife was christened. He may have been the Edward Evans who on 17 Mar 1811 married Mary Edmunds and on 23 Sep 1816, as a widower, married Hannah Jarrett, a widow, and was buried on 3 Oct 1840--all in Risca, Monmouth. (Hannah's maiden name was Coslet.) Have you, in searching for your Evanses, encountered any information about Edward? Thanks. 1. [MON] Death/Disappearance of EVAN EVANS
    2. Evan Evans, b. 1812-1816 MON, was my GG Grandfather. The last trace I have of him is Oct 1841, when he registered the birth of my G Grandmother, Mary, in Garndiffaith, Pontypool District, Trevethin, MON. His occupation was Fireman. There were two children older than Mary in his family at that time. His wife, Mary formerly Joshua, remarried in Jul 1847 in Trevethin, MON, casting herself as a Widow. However, I have been able to find no record of the death of first husband Evan. There are two Evan Evanses d. 1841-1847 in FreeBMD for the Pontypool District, and I have obtained death certificates for both but neither is the right man (one is an infant, the other a senior citizen, and my Evan would have been in his thirties). Mindful that people did not always die in their home District, I note a multiplicity of deaths for Evan Evanses in Abergavenny and other Districts near Pontypool in 1841-1847, but there are too many to affordably obtain death certificates for all. I am also mindful that there were occasions when a husband/father absconded, and the abandoned wife had him declared dead or otherwise went on with life as a widow. In this regard, I note that her second marriage was in the Register Office in Trevethin Parish, and I understand that resort to civil ceremonies was sometimes had to avoid embarrassing questions that might be raised at a church wedding. I also note that Evan, and Mary and her children, while living in Garndiffaith for the Jun 1841 Wales Census, did not appear to be living under the same roof. I have not located Evan in any passenger list of emigrants, or been able to identify him in any Wales Census subsequent to 1841. I do not know whether the family were Church in Wales, or Non-Conformists, though I suspect the latter. I respectfully solicit the collective wisdom of the List as to where I might proceed next in my efforts to find him. Regards, Cecil
