    3. Apologies for posting this again - I realised I'd forgotten the subject line..... Nathaniel Davies was born in 1791 in Breconshire. The exact town is not yet known, nor who his parents were. He married Ann Unknown (born in 1792 in Brecon), where the first child was also born, before the family moved to Monmouthshire, where Nathaniel worked as a quarryman at the Ironworks in Bedwellty, living at Dre Evans. Their children were: - David Davies (1818 - >1881) in BRE - John Davies (b.: ca. 1821) - William Davies (b. 1829) in GLA - Margaret Davies (b.: 1831) Based upon the birthplaces of their children, the eldest son was born in Brecon town in 1818, the third child in Glamorgan in 1829 and the daughter not in MON in 1831, the family must have been on the move a fair bit, ending up in Bedwellty in 1841. By 1851 he had become a master haulier. In 1851 their granddaughter, Anne, aged 4, born in Carmarthenshire, is living with them, but no sign of her parents (although Davids wife was born in Llanegwad CMN, so this might be a clue). Nathaniel died in 1852. I do not know where or when Ann died, nor where they are buried. So much to the background. Now, not knowing Monmouthshire at all (coming from relatively rural Caernarfonshire), can anyone shed any light on the Rhumney Ironworks in Bedwellty, apart from the fact they closed in the 1890s and were part owned by the Crawshay family? I assume Dre Evans no longer exists. Does anyone know anything about this road or district? Finally, can anyone with local knowledge help decipher the census place on the following images of the 1851 census? 2. Hello Dewi, Rhymney Ironworks was not named that to start off with, it was called Rhymney Furnace and was started by 4 Bristol Merchants who were the owners and later Richard Crawshay of Cyfarthfa took an interest reason being was so that he could use this as a dowry for his daughter. Bute Iron Works upper Rhymney Valley was the opposite side of the bank to Rhymney Furnace and both became known as Rhymney Ironworks. A little village called Bute Town consists of three rows of terraced cottages and is a beautiful location and two of the houses are now a Museum and well worth a visit, but these cottages were some distance from the works but the Iron Works was situated in that location. And regarding Dre Evans I myself have not heard of this but back then there was not always named roads some were just classed as where they were close to, and Bute Town is on the edge of the village of Rhymney itself and not to be confused with the Valley named Rhymney. 2. The mystery of the disappearance of Evan Evans (b. c1812-1816), my G GF, been solved. He died on 11 Feb 1843 in Garndiffaith, Trevethin, MON. Cause of death was Decline, which evidently meant Tuberculosis, given his relative youth (age 34). He was found concealed in the BMD behind a transcription error which set forth his forename as "Ewan". One would think that the fuzzy search for "Evan" would have turned it up, but it didn't, and there you are. Thanks again to all who took an interest in the case. Regards, Cecil
