G'day Bill You would need to know which newspapers were current at the time. Try visiting the British Library's newspaper website http://www.bl.uk/catalogues/newspapers/welcome.asp It has a search facility and should tell you what newspapers were available at the time in Abertillery. When you have the newspaper names you might then contact the Cwmbran Records Office to find if they have microfilm or hard copy of the relevant newspapers. From there you may have to ask for help from the members of the list or a relative who lives in the area. However, there might not be an obituary with lots of information, just a barebones announcement of his death giving regimental details and place and date of death. Cunderford(forest?) Gloucester, with wife Sarah age 37 b. Abertillery Mon; children are: Emily 13; Joseph W. 10; Martha A. 8; Apolan (Apsolam?-sic) 7; Isiah 5; Reuben 3; John 11mo. all born Monmouth; can't decipher town. Isaiah is also on 1871 and 1881 censuses with parents Joseph and Emily, and siblings Leah, Keziah, Lucy and Absalom, in East Dean, Glos. His birth record is Dec (4th Qtr) 1895, Bedwelty Vol 11a/p70. At my son's wedding to his Welsh fiance, we had a friends table, an English speaking table and a Welsh speaking table, and all had a great time. I have a Welsh speaking daughter in law, a fluent Welsh speaking 13 yr old step grandson, and a grandson 5yrs at a bilingual school who like his older brother trys to teach poor English Nanna how to speak Welsh. I cannot get that LL sound, always comes out cl. My son works for the Welsh Government, he has had Welsh lessons, and with the aid of his children's school reading books as they have learnt to read in Welsh is speaking it quite well nowadays. Me and Grandpop are a lost cause I'm afraid. I can say bread and butter and red sauce, and yellow in Welsh and that is about it!
