    2. Hello, I have BMD certificates in front of me for 1883,1895,1896 and the certificate for 1883 is Registration District is Merthyr Tydfil Sub-District Aberdare Counties of Glamorgan and Brecon Certificates for 1895,1896 Registration District is Bedwellty Sub-District Aberystruth Counties of Monmouthshire and Brecknock. So it appears that Brecon/Brec was correct. Regards Barbara

    3. G'day list Is there anyone out there who (a) knows what schools existed in the Pontypool district between 1880 and 1890 and (b) what would have happened to their records? My grandparents would have attended school there some time between 1882 and 1890. It would help me greatly if I could find out about their schooling. Thanks in anticipation. Hi Listers, School log books are often kept in County Record Offices. Some Victorian log books may even still be in schools. When the Mid-Glamorgan school, in which I was teaching, had its centenary, in 1978, I remember seeing the school log book from those times. 3. Hi Sian, I found something similar. In 1870 and again in 1871, my g. grandfather took his dead infant children from Abertillery to be buried in Tredunnock. Quite a distance. He did this because there was a family plot in Tredunnock where his grandparents and g. grandparents were buried, together with other members of the family. This turned out very helpful to my research, as it confirmed the link between my g. grandfather and the rest of the family in Tredunnock. By 1887, when another child died, he had moved up to Brynmawr and no longer made the journey back to Tredunnock. All the rest of the family were buried in Brynmawr. 1. Re: [MON] William Smith
    2. Jean Smith
    3. I'm sure you've probably been through this process - but are you 100% sure the William Smith on the 1861 and the one on the 1871 are the same? I've been 'caught out' before with Smiths! The reason I ask is because between 1861 and 1871, William only aged 3 years, and Mary, his wife, only 3 years, although their daughter Margaret is the right age. Also his occupation has changed drastically, from Traffic Manager to Pitter. Mary's birthplace is the same, but his has moved from Westbury (sub-Mendip) to Devonshire - Westbury (near Wells) even isn't close to Devon. Sarah's age is also inconsistent, but that could be because the first Sarah died, and they had another daughter they named Sarah. I know our forebears could be a bit cavalier with their ages, but a difference of 7 years is quite a lot. That gives William's birth anywhere between 1817 and 1824, and Mary's from 1819 - 1826. He's on the 1841 in Aberystruth, district 8, living as a lodger, occupation hawker (I think). Do you have any documentary evidence that these two families are the same? -Jean. He did go on and marry Mary Ann COLEMAN form Blaina though! There are two Westburys in the West Country that I know of - Westbury in Wiltshire, not too far from Trowbridge. Westbury-on-Trym near to Bristol. I know its in Wiltshire, but could he have been from that one?
