    2. Hello Carol, Have you obtained birth certificates for Joseph and John, by doing so this would assist you further in knowing the maiden name of Mary plus the children's fathers name. I located a Mary Davies on the 1851 Census living still in Tredegar as she was in 1861, but her husbands name was Jonah both of them recorded as born in Carmarthenshire, where Mary was born in 1837. Regards Barbara

    3. Hello - In 1861 Mary DAVIES b. 1822, was widowed from Benjamin and living with her sons John b. 1857 and Joseph b. 1849 in Bedwellty. Also listed is Harriet MORGAN b. 1837 as the daughter so I assume Mary was a MORGAN. I have not been able to find this family in 1851 and nothing on Harriet which I had hoped would bring me some clues. It appears Harriet would have been born when Mary was about 15. Any suggestions as to where I could find out more about this family before 1861. Thanks, Carol in Canada

    3. Dear Listers It is with great sadness that I report the death of a very dear e mail friend and lister. You may know of her as eandka/pandobear/Jojo or several other akas. It has taken me some time to find this out as she stopped mailing me in June 2006 after telling me it was thought she had had a stroke and I didn't want to trouble her whilst she was unwell. She and I were great friends via e mail so I never had her personal address which is why it has taken me so long to establish what has happened. If someone has it, I would be grateful to have a copy off list. Those of you who knew her will, I am certain, join with me in thinking of her this evening. Edmonton Journal Cunliffe, Esther - CUNLIFFE, Esther Katherine On August 13, 2006, Mrs. Esther Katherine Cunliffe of Edmonton passed away at the age of 65 years. Goodnight Jojo. 3. I have started to research my uncles family and have got back to a John HOWELL a labourer born about 1783 at St Arvans and his wife Margaret born about 1779 at Llansoy, Monmouthshire and son John a shoe maker born about 1809 at St Arvans and another son George born about 1816 St Arvans, there are probably a lot more children but at this time I am interested in John who's wife was Mary born about 1802 at Swansea and they had among others Alfred born 18 Apr 1834 at St Arvans and who became a locomotive driver. Alfred married Jane JOHN born about 1838 at Cardiff and among others they had John William HOWELL a Loco Fireman who was born Nov Quarter of 1859 at Cardiff and married Frances Emily WILLIAMS born about 1862 at Cardiff, they had among others a Frances Emily HOWELLS born Sep Quarter 1891 who married 24 Dec 1915 at Cardiff Register Office my uncle Robert Leonard BROWN who was born Sunderland, County Durham, England 1887. As well as loving to hear from any relatives of these families I would be grateful to find out if there are any Baptist records that I could find for St Arvans area in the 1700s. Cheers. Wilf BROWN

Ellen was the daughter of James (AKA John) McCarthy (born c.1841) and Johannah Donovan (born c.1842) both of whom were born in Ireland and lived in Merthyr Tydfil before moving to Swansea.
