    1. [MON] Alfred John Green & Ethel Bailey Dakers (Dacre)
    2. Heather Dickson
    3. Hi, I am looking for information on Alfred John Green. I have a photo of him that was taken at 23 Commercial Newport Monmouthshire. Written on the back of the photo is: “Lynton” St Alban’s Rd Terherbert Monmouthshire Wales – Jan 1904. Is there a way of confirming his address? I would like to know whom his parents were, where they are buried and if he had any siblings. I do not have any information on his family. (Census: 1911 info: lived in Abergavenny (Parish: Blaenavon) Monmouthshire Wales (Spouse: Ethel Barley Green)) He married Ethel Bailey Dakers (sometimes spelled Dacre) about April 1905 in Newport Monmouthshire Wales. They had two children: Norah Green born about 28 Dec 1907 and John Dakers Green about 1909. Her parents John Dakers (whom I believe is the one who was a County Magistrate for Bedwellty Petty Sessional Division in 1901 and lived at 40 Ombersley Road Newport) and Margaret Hannah – I do not know her maiden name. Both died in 1908 in Newport Monmouthshire. I would like to know where they are buried and Margaret’s maiden name. Did either of them have any siblings? It looks like Ethel and her siblings were born in Durham England before moving to Bedwellty, Aberystruth Monmouthshire Wales (Ecclesiastical Parish: Holy Trinity St. Peter & St. John) according to the 1891 census. It looks like Ethel Bailey Dakers’ siblings were: • Bertha M Dakers baptized Mar 1876 • John Edward Sydney Dakers 1877 (Possible twin girls: Kathleen & Marjorie Dakers who died Jun 1908 in Bedwellty, before their first birthday (same month as their grandmother Margaret Hannah) • Herbert Hugh Dakers baptized 5 Jul 1878 • Norah Clarissa Dakers baptized 14 Apr 1880 • Marian Hilda Dakers 1883 Ethel Bailey Dakers was a concert pianist. Is there any way I can find out where she played? She used to play with an orchestra. Ethel Bailey Dakers and Alfred John Green left Monmouthshire somewhere between 1911 and 1914, where my grandfather Geoffrey Green was born in Ermelo, Mpumalanga South Africa. Ethel had a sister Bertha Dakers who visited them in South Africa but I do not believe she lived there and I cannot find any record of where she died or that she was ever married. Any information you can get me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, and have a wonderful day Heather Dickson

Hello eveyone   Many thanks for the info regards Magaret Morgan.    Joshua Williams eventually became her husband, but could you please tell me where he was in 1861.   He was from Bedwellty, and about 10 years older than Margaret.    I wonder if they knew one another as youngsters, that thought just occured to me. He is shown as from Bedwellty on the 1881 census.   His parents were John and Maria Williams.   cheerio Irene

    1. Re: [MON] Groeswen chapel, Caerphilly
    2. Jeff Coleman
    3. Your subject line refers to Groeswen, but your text refers to Groeslon, which does not seem to be the name of a chapel in the Caerphilly area. For details of Groeswen chapel, Caerphilly http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Eglwysilan/GroesWen/ See also interesting history on http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Eglwysilan/Chapels.html which also has links to a photo of the chapel and to a history of it in Welsh (with partial translation), as well as the list of records held Note that because of the way that the Archives Network Wales search engine has been programmed you have to search on Groes-wen to find the chapel records at Glamorgan Archives in Cardiff, and on Groeswen to find peripheral information such as a daughter chapel in Rhydfelin. Given that the use of a hyphen is Welsh placenames is erratic, it is sad that they can't program their search engine to ignore a hyphen. The grid reference places the chapel high on the southern end of Mynydd Eglwysilan above Nantgarw, about 3 miles from Bedwas as the crow flies, a bit longer going down through Caerphilly and up again. Groes-wen, Caerphilly CF15 finds it on Google maps and you can see an extensive graveyard on the satellite image, and a view of the front of the chapel on StreetView. As the only chapel of the Annibynwyr in the area for some many years, it is quite possible that people buried there may have lived some miles away, and maybe worshipped at other Independent chapels which did not have graveyards, or whose graveyards were full or closed by public health legislation. The Memorial Inscriptions were recorded by Glamorgan Family History Society some time ago on microfiche - as Caerphilly Groeswen *Welsh Congregational Chapel listed on http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wlsglfhs/fiche3.htm It you do not have a fiche reader, or access to one, it may be worth contacting the Glamorgan FHS Aberkenfig Research Centre http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wlsglfhs/direct.htm by the email link there, to see whether (1) the microfiche are on special offer (2) whether it is possible to supply you with a copy in another format. If you are a member of Glamorgan FHS you can request lookups in publications. Jeff

    3. Hi Irene, Someone on here might be able to help but just so you know, Caerphilly was in the old county of Glamorgan and not in the old county of Monmouthshire. I would look at the publications list of Glamorgan Family History Society to see if they have transcribed the Monumental Inscriptions or the burial registers of the places you are searching. Ann Macey List Admin Hello   could sks please advise if Groeslon Chapel is one and the same as Groeslon Church.

    3. Even 1851 - he could have come after that census too. Usually Australian death certificates have length of time in the colony on them. Does it have that Lou? I did find one Richard Browning who arrived in Victoria in 1855 - a bit late since he married here in 1851. :( Regards Lyn In Oz. > -----Original Message----- > From: monmouthshire-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:monmouthshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of L Morriss > Sent: Sunday, 30 December 2012 7:30 AM > To: wallou51@bigpond.net.au; monmouthshire@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [MON] Browning family > > Maybe some kind person can find the family on the 1841 > census, this would help determine some idea of the time space > to Australia, regards john > > On Sat, Dec 29, 2012 at 12:22 PM, Lou Walsh > <wallou51@bigpond.net.au> wrote: > snip

    3. Hi List Looking for my G G Grandfathers' family - Richard Browning. His parent were Richard Browning and Sarah Jones. He was born (according to death certificate) Newport Monmouthshire England about 1832. He came to Australia - can't find anything about this event. He married in 1851 in Queensland Australia and had eleven (11) children. Can anyone help please. Lou
