Dear Linda According to the census for 1851 your James Bond seems to have been born in Hampshire, place unspecified. I can't find him in any other year, but there's another Mary who married another James Bond in the same village and he came from Staffordshire. Do you know which is which? So he lied about his age when he got married, perhaps he didn't want anyone thinking that he was "cradle-snatching if he was really ten years older than his bride. I would obtain his birth certificate before making any definite decisions about his age. East Monmouth Local Militia Tuesday s'ennight having been appointed for the assembling of the above corps, at Monmouth, to take the sense of the regiment respecting the extension of their service to Government at this important period, the whole arrived there in the course of that day. On Wednesday they met at the field, when Major-General MOLYNEAUX, their commanding officer, explained to them the motives for which they were called together, and required them to express their wishes whether or not they were willing to accede to the proposals of his Majesty's Ministers. We are happy to state, that 400 fine fellows declared their readiness to step forward by hand and repeated huzzas. They afterwards paraded the town with colours and military music, as proof of their cordial desire to co-operate with other corps for the general good of the kingdom. In the evening, copious libations were offered o he success of our brave army and its allies on the Continent; and on Thursday they all peaceably returned home. The sums which have been paid by the clerks of sub-division meetings of Lieutenancy, in England, into the Bank, on account of fines for the Local Militia, already amount to 182.663d. 11s. this sum has been applied to the general purposes of the Local Militia, in diminution of the ? required for that service. Can anyone help me with the following family please as I have hit a brick wall - so what's new everyone asks!!! >From information on the 1901 census I have James Willliams (46) living at 21 Riverside, Maindee Newport along with wife Amelia (33) and children Nellie 6, Amelia 4 and Thomas 1 + Nellie F Richardson, niece aged 11 and I know this to be the correct family as Nellie was sent to live with her mother's family after her death However I found a marriage certificate for James Williams and Amelia George in 1894 which ties up with the ages of the children but on the certificate it gives James as being 31 (ie b1863) and Amelia 25 (ie b1869). Amelia's I can understand as that is about 2 years different from what I had worked out but James' age should have been 39/40! James's father is down as being Thomas Williams, farmer deceased. I am looking for James and Harriet in the 1871 census to see if there is another child Elizabeth on this census as she is the mother of Nellie Florence, niece aged 11. I think she would have been older than James. There is a more obvious connection to this family in that Nellie Florence also had the christian name of Church - ie Nellie Florence Church Richardson and the first child of James and Amelia is Nellie Church Williams. If anyone can help with this census I would be most grateful.
