Thank you Robert for your help. The Marriage details given for Thomas Smyth and Martha Wall are correct. This family just seems to have disappeared although we do know that Ann and Martha (Margaret) came to Australia in 1875 and 1877 and possibly a brother/cousin Joseph also came in 1875. Their records are giving us conflicting information as to their ages and where they were born. Thomas Smyth (their father) was a Publican according to the two girls Death certificates. I will just have to keep digging! True enough Robert. I have tried to contact people who copied bad information into their Family Trees, trying to find out where they got it and if they could confirm it at all. Took months to hear back from some, and a few never answered at all. Turns out they had all just copied it from somebody else's tree without checking; which seems to be a growing problem on Ancestry. Hi All, I get an email alert from Ancestry when someone sends me a message on Ancestry. This may be in the set-up but I don't remember. It is possible that some users will ignore these alerts or don't understand them. When I use Ancestry for this purpose, I try to put a "Hook" in the subject. Can you ALL please put subject lines (preferably with Name or Place) in your emails as there is a lot of virus emails about on other lists and I don't like to open emails with (no subject) or dubious non gen content. Hello Wondered if anyone has any information on the parentage of this little boy born 1907 Bedwelty District sadly died 1908 Bedwelty District. Am wondering if he was the only child of WALTER ALFRED KINGDOM and ANNIE ELIZA MOBBERLEY (nee JONES). Also any information regarding Annie's former husband GEORGE MOBBERLEY born 1848 LYE WORCESTERSHIRE who disappeared off the face of the earth sometime between 1901 and 1905 when Annie remarried Walter Kingdom. also ... Information on Walter Alfred Kingdom's whereabouts post 1911 - I can find no deaths for either man George or Walter! (There is a death recorded for a George Mobberley in Stourbridge District in 1927 aged 77 which is interesting, but of course that would make Annie a bigamist!) Fingers Crossed! Best wishes, Julie Sent from my iPad
I am presenting what may be my Morgan Family for your consideration. When William Morgan, my Great Grandfather, an emigree from Wales died in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Wednesday February 26,1890, his funeral was to take place at the residence of his brother John Morgan at 1307 Bingham Street in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, (USA). Then his Brother, John Morgan died on Saturday, January 30, 1915, at his residence, 1307 Bingham Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His Death Notice was a genealogists dream. It said he was from South Wales, it noted when the came to Pittsburgh and it named all of his siblings. They were; Mrs Catherine Davies of Pittsburg (the spelling of Pittsburgh at this time),. Mrs John (Mary) Beddow of Birmingham, Alabama (USA) and one brother, Morgan L Morgan of Chicago, Illinois (USA). A search on Ancestry for this family unit in the 1861 Census revealed the family of William & Ann Morgan living in the Parish of Bedwelty in the township of Monmouth, (RG9/4005 Folio 20 Page 2) with the following children; William, Daniel, Ellen, Catherine, John, Morgan and Ann. A check of this same family in the 1851 Census indicated the following; they were still in the Parish of Bedwelty, Village of Ebbw Vale and had the following children, William, Daniel, Eleanor, Catherine. Living with them was Thomas Morgan, Lodger and Mary Ann Morgan, on visit. (Piece 2448, Folio 693, Page 16). Looking at 1871 census to check out if this had been a lucky guess or fate, found William and Ann were down to three childrem still living in the Civil Parish of Bedwelty and Town of Ebbw Vale. (RG10/5325 Folio 5 Page 4) The children were John, Morgan and Mary Ann. It appears that about three weeks after they were enumerated they got on a ship to America. The ship was the Manhattan sailing from Liverpool on 29 April, 1871 and arriving in America's Castle Island reception station on 29 May, 1871. The remainder of this family, with the addition of a daughter, Lilly May is found in the 1880 US census living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 1307 Bingham Street. I looked at 1841 census without any positive conclusions. I am confident, to a reasonable conclusion, this is my ancesteral family. I have followed and researched this family in America to a suitable conclusion. Now I had to look towards Wales. I am reaching out for help. Especially with the places of birth for William and Ann. It is apparent they were born in Carmarthen but It is my understanding that parts of Carmarthen became added to Monmouth at some time. How does this effect Parish record searches ? The birth place for the children are more readable. Any and all help appreciated. David Zimmerman Howell, Michigan USA
Hi Irene, I am very interested in harpists and have several books about them. Sorry to say I have not come across Joshua Williams, but I neither have I ever seen a reference to my grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Williams and her brother, James Williams, who were members of Lady Llanover's band of harpists! Joshua could well have played at Llanover House, Tredegar House, Cefn Mabli or Ruperra Castle. What sort of dates are we talking about? My grandmother was living in Llanover in the 1880s. Eire charges 20 euros (26 $AUD, 27 US$) and is very difficult to pay because it doesn't take Paypal or similar, go to <http://www.groireland.ie/fees.htm> England & Wales Search through Free BMD index for details, 9.25 pounds sterling. Scottish records you have to buy credits(through Paypal etc) and they are used to pay for finding the record and then to download the certificate. probably more for a hard copy.
