    3. Hi Carol Not sure if you got an answers - have you tried looking in the 1881 census. Where does it say she was born - you could perhaps use FreeBMD to search for it if you can narrow down a registration district. Just using the county for Williams is a bit too onerous. http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ Regards Lyn in Oz. > -----Original Message----- > From: monmouthshire-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:monmouthshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Carol > Sent: Sunday, 31 March 2013 3:05 AM > To: monmouthshire@rootsweb.com > Subject: [MON] Williams > > Hi, > > I am trying to figure out the name of the 15 year old > daughter that looks like Metim on the 1891 census. > > Father is Thomas Williams 39 colliery timberman Pembroke > Mother Susannah Dowlais > Metim 15 > Elvira 12 > Susannah L 7 > Thomas Stanley 1 > 42 Treharne St. Ystradyfodwg, Rhondda > > I have also tried to find them in 1881 and no luck - must > either be omitted or a spelling error. 3. I don’t know what your bookmarked url is, but you can try the archive and see if it holds the old site info. http://archive.org/ Enter the bookmarked url into the Wayback Machine window where it says Take Me Back and hopefully the old site will come up. No promises. Good luck. :) Daryl -----Original Message----- From: monmouthshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:monmouthshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of davies_r11@sky.com Sent: Thursday, May 02, 2013 11:22 AM To: Monmouthshire@rootsweb.com Subject: [MON] Trevethin Parish Records Good evening,                     Can anyone tell me how I can access the above site?I used to  have it bookmarked, but it no longer works                     Thanks                        Roy ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MONMOUTHSHIRE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    1. [MON] EDWARD POWELL
    2. Sandi Halling
    3. I would like to know if anyone is researching an Edward POWELL in Monmouthshire. I believe my gggrandmothers Sarah POWELL's father was Edward and he was a farmer. She was born 1814ish in Monmouth Wales. I have found the following entries which may or may not be right, but could be connected to her. 1) Marriage 1 August 1812 Edward Powell, Monmouth bachelor, to Frances Llewellen, Monmouth spinster. Banns St Marys Monmouth. This from Gwent FHS Marriages. 2) in the 1841 census for Llanover Lower at Coust Farm there is a William Powell 75 farmer not born in county, Edward Powell, farmer, not born in county, Thomas Powell 25, male servant not born in county and William Powell, 20 male servant, born in county. Sarah Powell was married to Henry Summers on 7th July 1839 in Church of England Charlton Kings Gloucester. She stated her father was Edward Powell Farmer. There was a Mary Powell as a witness at the wedding. In each census she says Monmouth as her birthplace, and in 1871 it is spelt as Laneyatha, However no place exists of that name so it must have been transcribed wrongly. I have found a Mary Powell born 1819 Llanarth, and a Mary born in Llanover in 1811. There are several Sarah Powells but I cannot distinguish which would be her. Can anyone help....maybe these names are familiar and part of your family research. Any help would be appreciated from me in New Zealand. Sandi Halling.

    3. As requested I am forwarding this to my lists. Please note that I do not have any more information about this event. Ann Macey List Admin -----Original Message----- On Behalf Of Geoff Stone Sent: 14 April 2013 23:26 Will Listowners please post the press release below - to their lists. Genealogy Conference on British Migration <http://www.exodus2103.co.uk>http://www.exodus2013.co.uk With 20 talks from 17 different internationally known genealogists and historians, the Halsted Trust is delighted to announce its Second International Family History conference featuring the theme of British Migration; from, to and within the British Isles. Exodus: Movement of the People will be held at a comfortable and modern hotel from 6th to 8th September 2013. The Hinkley Island Hotel, Hinkley, Leicestershire is a great venue with state of the art conference facilities. Families that move are always a challenge for family historians. They may travel a few miles into another parish or another county or another country. They may have come from just down the road or from the other side of the world. Finding where an ancestor comes from, or goes to, needs skill and tenacity as well as luck. Are there records showing movement into the parish? As the British Empire expanded, and later contracted, British migrants are to be found all over the world and not just on areas coloured red in the Edwardian atlas. They were entrepreneurs, and engineers, miners and musicians as well as colonial civil servants and soldiers. Not every migrant wanted the adventure and many came back as soon as they could. The Halsted Trust invited our conference speakers to consider how and why Britons migrated from, to or within the British Isles. We wanted to know how genealogists could be equipped to tackle the challenges of tracing the origins of migrant ancestors and understand the reasons for their migration. Poverty, religion, ambition, even love are strong drivers of change and wanderlust. Some such as criminals and slaves were forced to migrate. Are there new genealogical sources and resources becoming available and what evidence does archaeology or DNA provide for migration? We wanted to look at the impact of Diasporas on Britain and the impact of the British Diaspora on the world. As we look at migrants to the UK's former colonies we also look at the growing digital resource of migration sources and passenger lists as well as the vast untapped resources within UK archives showing the clues for the ancestor who just turns up in a parish. Migrants moulded the British Isles and its history. In the year leading up to this conference the Trust has published articles on the conference website about the places our ancestors went to and came from, along with stories about migrants who prospered and influenced history. 3. Many people find the Welsh 'll' hard to pronounce. Most foreigners would think hen-clan would not be far from what you hear, but the tongue needs to be further up behind from teeth for 'll' than 'cl'. Sounds of Wales is John Ball's page with pronunciations of many Welsh place names. How about going to http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/wales/sounds/index.htm and getting the idea of a two-syllable word ending in Llan from 'Cellan' and the combination of Hen and a syllable starting with 'll' by listening to Castell Henllys. 3. Hi Marilyn I suspect the pronunciation is the same whichever Henllan you are talking about, because there are Henllans in many other Welsh counties, including Powys, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Monmouthshire, as well as Denbighshire. The easiest way to pronounce the dreaded LL is to replace the first L with the letter H - just say HENHLAN and it will sound (almost) right Robert -----Original Message----- From: monmouthshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:monmouthshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Marilyn & Michael Could someone please advise what the pronunciation of the place Henllan in Denbyshire might be.
