Hello John. Can you point me in the right direction please, a item in vol 4 issue 372 from Glenda Brothers made mention of "Blainavon Baptisms 1814 - 1837" is there a internet site to access these records? If not how can I (living in Australia) access them? And wishing you and yours a Happy Christmas. Roy
Roy and Bob. Roy, am sorry I didn't put the source but Bob has found the correct site. I take it you are searching for other surnames than mine. Mr. David RHYS, the Divisional Coroner held an inquest on Monday at Penarth into the death of Albert FISH, (19) of Lewis-road, Llandough, at Llandough Saw Mills. Leonard BARRETT, of 70, Oak-street, Cardiff, stated that he saw FISH going into the belt race, which was a small pit about two feet square situated under ground, to adjust a belt which had slipped. Witness shouted to him "Wait a minute, I will stop the engine", but no notice was taken. Witness ran to the engine room where he heard a crash, and the engine stopped. Upon investigation he found FISH jammed between the pulley shaft and the belt. William TROTT, of 20, Hewell-street, Cogan, engineer at the works, said he had left his machine unattended for two minutes. It was evident that during that time FISH visited the engine room, and took away some tools to replace the belt. It was the custom always to stop the machine when belts were being adjusted. PETERS, M.Inst.C.E. whose appointment to the post of Cardiff City Waterworks Engineer, in succession to Mr. C.H. PRIESTLEY, was confirmed yesterday. (photo on page 8). Found last Friday evening lying bleeding at the foot of the staircase, Kenneth MERINER, a master mariner, of 151, North-road, Gabalfa, Cardiff, who, for the last two years had been suffering from valvular paralysis, died within a few hours from fracture of base of the skull. A verdict to this effect was returned at the inquest held by the deputy-coroner (Mr. Gerald TUDOR) on Monday. When the attention of the police was directed to a disturbance in St. John's Square Cardiff on Friday afternoon, a woman smashed several panes of glass in a tram-car on The Hayes. The woman used a flagon as a weapon of destruction, but the temper of the crowd prevented a young policeman arresting her. She was taken into custody on Monday, on appearing before the local magistrates proved to be Ellen O'BRIEN 49. She pleaded guilty to causing the damage, and was sentenced to a month with hard labour. Lengthy details of a afray at Ely between a party of civilians, a young Policeman, and a special constable were given to the Cardiff magistrates on Monday. (I will give names etc,) William Charles Alfred STANTON 29, Charles Thomas MANN 31, George CLARKE 48, and Charles WARD 44, were charged under the new order with committing an act calculated to prevent the proper working of a Corpotation-bus. Mr. R. BOOTH (Town Clerk's Office) explained the offences. Police-constable G. JAMES, and Special-constable GENTLE, were porotecting the bus-driver. Evidence was given in support of Mr. BOOTH'S statement. The magistrates (Captain J.H. READ, Mr. John HURLOW, Mr. W.R. SMITH, and Mrs. M.A. EDMUNDS), after retiring for some time, sentenced STANTON to a month with hard labour on two charges, two months in all, MANN to 21 days' hard labour, WARD was fined £5, or a month, and CLARKE £3. or fourteen days. There is a fair sprinkling of UK records so far, especially useful for people born there and migrated to the US. Lots of Irish.
