Hi Lee You already seem to have a fair amount of detail to start - I suggest getting a copy of you mother's birth certificate and then your grandparents marriage certificate, if you don't already have them. The marriage certificate will include the ages and places of birth of your grandparents who should then appear in the 1911 (and probably the 1901) census. The reference for your mother's birth is: Jan-Mar 1926 register District: Bedwellty Volume: 11a Page: 139 The reference for your grandparent's wedding is: Apr-Jun 1920 register District: Bedwellty Volume: 11a Page: 353 Robert -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Loreane Anderson I just recently started searching for some family background info. 3. Western Mail Wednesday June 9th 1926. Follow up to the last news item (Deaths). Following the death on Sunday of Mr. Thomas William GAYDON 73, a retired Swansea jeweller, at the residence of his son-in-law, M,r. Herbert HENDERSON, a well known Cardiff coal exporter of Glasfryn, Dinas Powis, Mrs Kate GAYDON, the widow, died with tragic suddenness early on Tuesday morning at the same house in the presence of her three daughters, Mrs. GAYDON, was 69, years of age. Mr. Daviud REES, (Divisional Coroner) held an inquest on Mrs. GAYDON at Dinas Powis on Tuesday, when her son-in-law, Mr. HENDERSON, stated that she expired almost without warning after a brief heart attack. Dr. W.V. GABE attributed her death to an affection of the heart, accelerated by her husband's recent death. Mr. REES, commenting on the rarity of such a double tragedy, returning a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony. Evidence given at the inquest held by Mr. R.J. RHYS on Tuesday on Rees MORGAN, whose body was recovered from the Tynewydd Reservoir, Treherbert, on Sunday evening, was to the effect that he had injured his back at the Tydraw Colliery, Treherbert, two years ago, and had been depressed of late because he had not recovered from the accident. A verdict of "Suicide by drowning whilst of unsound mind," was recorded. Returning a verdict of Suicide whilst of unsound mind" at the inquest held at Whitchurch on Tuesday on John Noel QUINLAN 31, a slaughterman, of 73, Constellation-street, Splott, who was found hangind from a tree near the Cross Inn, Llanedyrne, on Sunday morning, the East Glamorgan Coroner (Mr. David REES) said QUINLAN had obviously suffered from the effects of Army service and imprisonment as a prisoner of war. Evidence showed that ever since he came back from Germany, where he had been a prisoner of war for nine to twelve months, QUINLAN'S nerves had been shattered. He had never, however, threatened to do anything to himself. The necessity for some protection on the river bank at Treforest was emphasised by Mr. David REES (district coroner) at the inquest at Treforest on Tuesday on Beryl May HUGHES 5, daughter of Mr. John HUGHES, labourer, of Castle-street, who fell into the river near a wall on a plot of ground close to the Labour-hall, Treforest. While with another little girl picking ivy leaves the child slipped and fell over the bank at a spot where there was no protection. A verdict of "Accidental death" was recorded, Dragging operations for the body of Mr. Harry GALLOP, the Canton lorry-driver who was drowned in the Maindy Pool on Monday evening, were carried on from an early hour on Tuesday morning without success. Crowds watched the search. An attempt is now being made to lift the lorry, so that if the body is underneath it can rise to the surface. A verdict of "Death from suffocation, due to an epileptic seizure," was recorded by Mr. R.J. RHYS, at an inquest held on Tuesday at Aberdare on Richard Davies BOWEN 33, a single man living in Abernant-road, Aberdare said to be an aerial engineman, who was found dead in bed on Saturday morning. Edwin TUCKER, an elderly man, of Thornhill-street, was charged in the Cardiff Stipendiary's Court on Tuesday with having assaulted Frederick J. HARRIS, a lodger at his house. There was a cross charge also for assault. Mr. Barnett JANNER appeared for HARRIS. HARRIS said some point arose as to a new lodger going to the house. He said he would leave and gave notice to quit. Defendant hit him blows on the head with an iron poker, knocking him down and rendering him unconscious. He was taken to the infirmary by a police-constable. Police-sergeant PATTERSON, who visited the house, said that TUCKER'S statement to him was that HARRIS arrived home drunk, struck him in the face, and jumped at him. He thereupon used the poker in self defence. TUCKER was sent to prison for three months, with hard labour. The cross-charge against HARRIS was adjourned sine die. GAZETTE NOTICES-Receiving Orders in Bankruptcy. Harry BEVIN, the Victoria Inn, Caerleon-road, Newport, licensed victualler; court, Newport. Mr. MURRAY-THREIPLAND will leave in September for Princetown, where he will pursue his studies in geology. The importance of having life-guards on 'buses that journey on different routes to and from the city was emphasised by the Cardiff Coroner (Dr. R.J. SMITH, J.P.) at the inquest on Monday on Thomas John DAVIES, a collier, of Birchgrove, Porth. DAVIES who fell under a 'bus  at Llandaff on Saturday night died soon afterwards of his injuries. A verdict of "Accidental death" was recorded. Evidence of identification was given by a nephew, R. William BASSETT, farmer, of Waterfall Farm, Llandaff, who said DAVIES was a married man with two children. He was standing outside the Maltster's Arms soon after ten o'clock on Saturday night, having previously been in for a drink. They were waiting for the Rhondda 'bus, and when it arrived DAVIES left witness's side and shouted "Hey!" to the driver. At the same time he caught hold of the handrail near the driver's seat and ran along with the 'bus. Witness could not say whether he attempted to get on the 'bus while it was in motion, but after running a few yards he fell alongside the 'bus, and witness saw the near hind wheel pass over his body. Police-constable TANNER, another eye-witness of the accident, stated that when DAVIES was running alongside the'bus he had a paper bag parcel in his left hand. The 'bus was only going at a moderate speed, and pulled up in reasonable time. "Had this 'bus had life-guards on I don't think the accident would have happened," added Police-constable TANNER. Replying to the Coroner, witness said the Cardiff Corporation 'buses had life-guards on them. In answer to the Coroner, Mr. Leonard DAVIES said his clients had received instructions from the Cardiff police to have life-guards fixed to the 'buses, and instructions to that effect had been given within the last fortnight. In fact, life-guards had already been put on nine of the 'buses. The Coroner, in returning a verdict as stated, expressed the hope that life-guards would be fixed on company's 'buses plying in the city area as quickly as possible. An undertaking to that effect was given. The annual association meetings of the Welsh Baptists are being held at Aberystwyth this week. Delegates were engaged in committee work throughout Monday, and this (Tuesday) morning the conference will be opened under the Presidency of Mrs. T. F. ROBERTS. On Monday afternoon the Mayor of Aberystwyth (Councillor Llewelyn SAMUEL), on behalf of the town and corporation extended to the delegates a hearty welcome. They were all glad for the honour the association had bestowed on a lady of Aberystwyth in electing her to the chair (Mrs. T.F. ROBERTS). So far as they knew, Mrs. ROBERTS was the first lady to be thus honoured in the Carmarthen and Cardiganshire Association meetings. The Mayor's chaplain (the Rev. Peter PRICE, M.A., D.D., pastor of the Welsh Congregational Chapel, Aberystwyth) also welcomed the delegates. The President (Mrs. T.F. ROBERTS) responded on behalf of the delegates, after which they were entertained to tea by the mayor. Mr. John O. JONES, son of the late Capt. JONES and of Mrs. JONES, of Carnowen, Llangranod, Cardiganshire, obtained his first mate's certificate at the Board of Trade, Cardiff, gaining full marks after only three weeks at school. To fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late chairman of the Coedffrane Parish Council (Mr. W.R. LLOYD) Mr. John REES, who was the sixteenth on the list in the last election, was co-opted.
