DAVIES, third. ------------------------------------------------------------ Mrs. Edith ROLES 60, of 38, Coronation-terrace, Trethomas, who had been attended by a doctor for influenza, was found burnt to death in the lavotory at her home in the early hours of the morning. Powell NASH, a neighbour, saw flames coming from the building, and with the help of another neighbour, he broke down the door of the lavatory, where the body was discovered. Behind the door hung two coats and a mackintosh and it is assumed that these were set on fire by a candle which the woman had with her. The Coroner (Mr. D.J. TREASURE) at the inquest on Saturday, recorded a verdict of "Accidental death." How undigested milk caused the heart failure which resulted in the death of the three-days-old child of William John PHILLIPS, an unemployed stoker living at Abercwmboi, was told at an inquest which Mr. R.J. RHYS, coroner, held on Saturday. Nurse THOMAS, who attended the child's mother at the birth, said the child struck her as being perfectly normal. Dr. Ambrose OWEN, who conducted a post-mortem examination, stated that he discovered a quantity of undigested milk in the child's stomach. The outlet of the stomach, added the doctor, was extraordinarily narrow. This was the first case of the kind in his experience. The undigested milk led to heart failure which brought about death. The Coroner: It is at any rate a very interesting case of malformation and I can only record a verdict of "Death from natural causes." The funerals of William Henry SNELLGROVE and Frederick Martin ALLEN, the two colliers who were buried alive whilst digging for coal at the Cwmnanty Tip, took place at Aberbeeg Cemetery on Saturday. The procession which was almost half-a-mile in length, included Messrs. George BARKER, M.P., George DAGGAR, W. BEYNON, and H.E. PHINNEMORE. The officiating ministers were the Rev. W.M. DAVIES, vicar of Six Bells, and the Rev. Ivor EVANS, pastor of Blaenau Gwent Baptist Church. Harry KELLY 37, a tramp, said to be a native of Brecon, died at Pontardawe Workhouse Infirmary on Sunday morning from the effects, it is alleged, of drinking methylated spirits. An inquest will be held. Mrs. Ann JONES, wife of Mr. M. JONES, butcher, of 37, Court-street, Tonypandy, was found dead on Saturday morning. Her throat was cut and a butcher's knife was lying close by. The barking of a dog in the shop attracted the attention of a newsboy, and on looking through the window he saw the body of the woman. The Newport coroner on Saturday adjourned the inquest on Thomas Arthur Woodman BEACH, the infant child of Thomas John BEACH, miner, of Central-road, Llanhilleth. The father said that whilst the family was having tea on Thursday last, the child gripped a cup of tea unobserved, and the hot liquid went over his back and neck. He was conveyed to the Royal Gwent Hospital and there succumbed. A verdict of "Accidental death" was returned by the Pembroke County Coroner (Mr. H.J.E. PRICE) at an inquest held on Mrs. Elizabeth HAINES 80, a widow, of Foxall Cottage, Llangwym, who, as previously announced in the Western Mail was found dead on the floor of her bedroom on Tuesday with her clothing completerly burnt off. Police-constable BEVAN said that in his opinion the old woman got out of bed to replenish the culm fire in the room, and her clothing became ignited. John Patrick

    3. Western Mail Saturday June 12th 1926.   Mr. R.F. ILLINGWORTH, chief clerk in the engineering deptartment of the Great Western Railway at Barry Dock, has retired from his responsible position after having been in the service of the Barry Railway for 36 ye, and 43 years altogether in the service of one company or another. Mr. ILLINGWORTH joined the engineering department of the London and North-Western Railway at Crewe in 1883. Four years later he was transferred to the engineer's office at Lancaster and he started at Barry Dock in June 1890. For many years he has taken an active interest in sports and athletics at Barry, being one of the founders of the Barry Amateur Rowing Club and Barry Golf Club. Of the latter he has been hon. secretary, and he has carried off some off some of the principal trophies of the club. Mr. ILLINGWORTH is the father of Mr. L.G. ILLINGWORTH, the Western Mail cartoonist.   CORNELLY DISCHARGED- Soldiers' Fund.   All Persons having Claims or Demands against the Balance of the Fund are requested to send Particulars thereof to Mr. JOHN TRINDER, Cornelly, Pyle, within 14 days from this date. (Signed) Rev. E.J. ARTHUR, Chairman. J. TRINDER Hon. Secretary. 10th June 1926.   It is believed that amongst the passengers in the Brisbane express which was derailed while crossing a viaduct near Aberdeen, Australia, on Thursday was Mr. Elfed JENKINS, youngest son of Mr. James J. JENKINS, formerly secretary of the Ferndale Co-operative Society, and Mrs. JENKINS. Eight persons were killed and thirty injured, the latter including Marie BURKE and Mr. Ward MORGAN, principal in the musical company presenting "Katja the Dancer," in which Mr. Elfed JENKINS, another of the principals, was making his first provincial tour. No definite news as yet been received in the Rhondda as to whether he was amongst the casualties: but it is understood the complete company was proceeding to Sydney.   WELSH WEDDING.   CAREY - SYMMONS- The marriage took place at New Trinity Congregational Church, Cowbridge-road, Cardiff on Friday of Mr. C. John CAREY, of 26, Theobald-road, Cardiff, to Miss Dorothy M. SYMMONS, daughter of the late Mr. T.M. SYMMONS, and Mrs. SYMMONS, of Beda-road, Cardiff. The Rev. Griffith EVANS, B.A., officiated. The bride who was given away by Mr. E. BOWYER, wore a gown of ivory crepe-de-chine, with a veil of trimmed with orange blossoms and white heather. The bridemaids were Miss Estelle CRAPPE (cousin) and Miss Florence CAREY (sister of the bridegroom). Mr. Clifford CAREY (brother of the bridegroom) was best man. The honeymoon is being spent in London and Southsea.   A remarkable and mysterious development has been reported to the Llanelly police in connection with the disappearance on Sunday last of a fifteen-year-old boy, Wyndham NURSE, a Llanelly Intermediate School pupil, residing with his parents in Christopher-street, Llanelly. As previously reported in the Western Mail, the boy has not been seen or heard of since he left Greenfield Sunday School last Sunday afternoon. In vain the police have prosecuted inquiries throughout the whole of South Wales. Search parties have scoured the whole of the countryside around Llanelly, and on Friday their efforts were supplemented by over 100 of the missing boy's schoolfellows. Their efforts, however, met with no success. The sensational development concerns the information volunteered to the police by two boys living at Tregob, Llanelly. On Tuesday, while playing in the street, which is not 400 yards from the missing boy's home, these boys state that they were approached by a cyclist who said he came from Devonshire. The stranger asked them if they could tell him where either Wyndham NURSE-the missing boy-or Cliff NURSE-his brother-lived. The boys did not know either Wyndham or Cliff NURSE, but informed the stranger that a family of that name lived in Elizabeth-street. The cyclist seems to have called there and inquired for the NURSE family. He was told, however that the family had removed to Five Roads. Police inquiries have failed to establish the fact that any inquiries have been made at Five Roads, and, despite their efforts, they have as yet been unable to trace the mysterious cyclist.   Believed to be the King's oldest subject, Miss Jane Lang RABY, a native of Swansea, died at Bath on Friday in her one hundred and seventh year. Miss RABY'S father, Mr. Alexander RABY, was one of the pioneers of the tin-plate industry in Llanelly. Miss RABY lived in the reign of six monarchs- GEORGE 111, GEORGE 1V., WILLIAM 1V., QUEEN VICTORIA, EDWARD V11., and GEORGE V. Her family has an extraordinary record of longevity. Her elder sister died in 1905 at the age of 90; another sister was 95 at her death, while an aunt who passed away in 1906 missed being a centenarian by a year. Her mother lived to the age of 87. Lady METHUEN, her cousin, used to send her every year a birthday cake decorated with minature candles and flags, one for each years of her life. Miss RABY was an aunt of Lady CUBITT (wife of Sir Bertram CUBITT, of the War Office) and a cousin of Lady DORCHESTER. Her brother, Admiral H. RABY, who served in the Crimean War, was one of the first to receive the Victoria Cross; he brought in a wounded soldier under heavy fire after the assault on the Redan. Till almost the last Miss RABY read, wrote, and kept her own accounts. Since becoming a centenarian she had received kindly messages from the King and Queen, and every year had been visited by the Mayor and Mayoress of Bath to present the city's congratulations.   John Patrick

    3. Western Mail Saturday June 12th 1926. Percy SUTER 35, a Cwmfelinfach collier, appeared before the Blackwood Bench on Friday on a Summons by his wife, Doris Ida, for assault and also for desertion, the wife appeared in the witness-box with a badly discoloured eye. Mr. J.T. PRIESTLEY, for the wife, said the parties met on the previous night and the husband had put into writing a promise to keep from drink, and to do his best for his wife and children, and expressed regret for what he had done. In the circumstances he asked for an adjournment. Several of the magistrates demurred and Mr. D.J. TREASURE (for the husband) said it was these two people who had to decide whether they would live together or not. They had agreed to go together. One of the magistrates told defendant he should be ashamed of standing where he was. Mr. TREASURE, protested that the case was not being heard, and there was a great deal to be said for the husband's side of the case. Eventually the case was adjourned for three months, the Clerk remarking to defendant: "You are fortunate in having a very forgiving wife." A former Rugby half-back for Newport, Capt. Roy Milward George BEITH 34. of St. Briavels, Chepstow, brother of Mr. Douglas BEITH, of Taff-street, Pontypridd, was found lying on the railway near Woolaston on Thursday evening seriously injured, and he died shortly admission to Lydney Hospital. Capt. BEITH who was married, was returning to Lydney from Cardiff by the midnight mail, and shortly before reaching Lydney a fellow passenger, who missed him , reported the matter. A search was made, and in the early hours of the morning Capt. BEITH was found lying as stated. It is assumed that when in the train, a corrider one, he mistook the outer door for an inner one, and openning it  stepped out into space. The police state that there is no suggestion of foul play. An inquest is to be held. Attached first to the 5th Battalion Welch Regiment and subsequently to the Motor Machine Gun Corps, Capt. BEITH, saw war service in Gallipoli, Egypt, and Palestine. He was the eldest of five sons of the late Mr. George BEITH, electrical engineer, Court House, Pontypridd, and, with his btother , for some time carried on business in Taff-street, Pontypridd, as an electrical engineer. When Minnie SANSOM 30, a servant girl who had been in the employ of Mr. John L. HALLINAN, of 63, Cathedral-road, for about fifteen years, failed to put in an appearance some time after her usual hour on Friday morning the household naturally became concerned.  Mr. HALLINAN, sen., found the girl's bedroom door locked, and, failing to obtain any answer to his knocks and calls, he called his son, Councillor Charles Stuart HALLINAN, who happened to have spent the night in the house. The door was broken down and when the two men entered the room they found it full of gas and the girl lying on her bed apparently dead. They at once removed her to a healthier atmosphere and called in Mr. DUNBAR, who, however, could do nothing but to pronounce life extinct. She had obviously died some previously of gas poisoning. The gas burner in her room, which had been stopped up, had been opened and a rubber tube attached which led in the direction of the bed. The girl, who was of a very reserved disposition, appeared to be in her usual quiet mood before retiring on Thursday night. Her parents reside at 8, Cog Farm, Sully, to where they removed from Cardiff a few weeks ago. John Patrick
