Hi! I promise to explain myself a little better! In saying that they lived "down the road," are you indicating then a specific area of Newton County...like more Granby-ish, or Ritchey, etc.? Thank you TONS for your reply! You have breathed new life into a theory! Deb
hello...My great grandmother Abby Blake Garrison b. 12 Sept 1880 d. 1979 lived down the road from them....before she died I got to go and spend an afternoon with her....she spoke of the Dalton boys with a gracious heart...she said they were good boys and always giving to people around the area. She couldn't understand why everyone one said they were bad boys.....JUDIE
Does anyone researching the Newton County area know anything about the activities of the Dalton Gang in and/or around the Granby area in maybe 1880's? Just researching an idea. Thanks for your assistance. Deb Vancouver
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Carter VAUGHN taken at the Head Studio in Mexico, Missouri. The photo was likely taken in the 1880's when Carter was an infant. I have been able to determine that a man named Carter VAUGHN married Lucy Ann NICHOLS on 17 Feb 1877 at Newton, Missouri, so I'm wondering if this might be their son. I'm hoping to trace the family and return the photograph to its rightful place with family. I appreciate any assistance you might be able to provide. Thanks, Shelley
There's a site featuring poor houses and the MO page says nothing about Newton Co. I think it would be helpful to current and future researchers if information about the poor house experience in Newton Co would be helpful. Is there a researcher who has this information and would post it to this site? It is: <http://www.poorhousestory.com>

Randy and Karen, My 2nd Greatgreat Grand father was born in Tenn according to Joe and William, But I don't even know his name. Thanks any way . Helen
Hello Helen, I'm responding for my wife whose maiden name was Taylor. Her family came from Indiana to the Topeka, Kansas area and settled there. She is from there. She has traced her lineage back to a Nicholas Taylor, born between 1812 and 1819, and we have 4 different places of birth for him (TN, VA, OH, PA). We haven't yet been able to determine which one is correct. Randy Randy & Karen (Bit by the genealogy bug!!) W.A. PAUL d: 1938 ( at 34 years old ) and some of the names listed in his obit is a MRS ROBERT LANE. Also mentioned in this obit are the names of MRS OLA PAUL STUSSY, MRS TED HAYNES MRS ARTHUR BERRY , HENRY STUSSY and JAMES STUSSY. W.A. PAUL was buried in the Granby cemetery. But in ELLA PAUL's obit ( 1954 ) it says she is buried in the NEW Granby cemetery. Can anyone tell me if the two cemeterys are one in the same? Are they online? Is anyone researching the STUSSY surname? Is anyone researching the other names? Victoria Brittain Allen
I too would like to know if there has ever been a list for Resenhauser Cemetery. Two of my great grandfathers are buried there. Alexander Lane and James Presley Jones One died 1858, the other 1906. Connie Schofield
Sharon, Our genealogy society here in Neosho, MO (the Newton county seat) is called the Genealogy Friends of the Library. For the current annual membership dues of the small sum of $9.00, you'll receive a quarterly newsletter chock full of information about Newton county and it's early settlers. You can even submit an article about your Newton county ancestors to be published and maybe find others who are researching your ancestors . We have monthly meetings with visiting speakers at each meeting. It's a great group! We do have a web site. It is at http://www.go.com/?win=_search&sv=M6&lk=noframes&nh=10&ud9=IE5&qt=%22Newton+ County%22+%2BMissouri+%2B+USGenWeb&oq=&url=http%3A//www.rootsweb.com/%7Emone wton/newton.html&ti=Newton+County,+Missouri+RootsWeb+Page&top= Good luck, Randy & Karen (Bit by the genealogy bug!!) Victoria, Karen Scott (my wife) and Carol Wood are the co-editors of the Roots quarterly newsletter. If you have either queries or possibly a reasonably short family history (1-2 pages) involving families from Newton county, and you would like to submit them for possible publication, I encourage you to send them off-list to the address below.
