Charlotte, I don't show a Mary Jane Brewer, but my family was also from Neosho. I bet there is a connection, I don't have much on the Brewer family. I wish I lived in the area so I can research them. I live in California and don't have access to a lot of the information that I'm sure is available. Jo

I don't live in the area. but Larry James did a canvass of most of the cemeteries in Newton county some years ago. See if someone on this list has a copy them or check with the Newton County genealogy group to check at the library. Know they have Larry's work there. Jo, I am trying to find the burial site of my husbands great grandmother, Jennie Brewer. She died in 1895 in the Neosho area. She married Priestley Allen Pike in 1884 in Balltown, Mo. In Priestley's obituary, it listed her as Mary Jane Brewer. Could she be a Brewer in your family? Connie, Do you know how I can find an obituary on John Henry Brewer? He probably died between 1900-1910. His wife and many of her family are buried in Newtonia Cemetery. I'm at my wits end trying to find when and where he died. I visited her grave in 1998 and the cemetery had been vandalized. I found a grave next to her's that had been broken, so I assume it was probably his. I would like to have proof. Do you have any suggestions? Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated, Jo (Brewer, Bell, Burress, Kelley, Smith)
Randy, My understanding is that the VA will replace any damaged or destroyed veteran's stone. Must send proof such as picture of damaged or destroyed stone. Will check with my funeral home contact again and explain it to him. Connie, I am the deputy sheriff that worked the vandalism case. It was some time ago. I will try and contact David Weems, who lives in Newtonia, and is on the cemetery board and let him know. Do think they will replace all of the damaged stones? That would be great. I also don't know how much, if any, repair or replacement, has already been done but I will find out. Randy Scott

I will continue to send these but only when I find evidence of the particular list name or country or state name to which I am subscribed.
These had come to me for free and I had attempted to be helpful and send them on to all of you. It was something that was FREE for 10 days. You didn't have to belong to anything to get it or use it for the 10 days. Some have been very greatful for this. Others of you apparently didn't want any free help and have told me so in very unkind and explicit terms what I could do with my free help. I too will quit receiving this in another 6 days as I didn't register for it or anything of the sort.So rest assured unless someone asks for something from now on I won't send anything. I deal with pewople like this everyday in person and I don't have to take it from people over the computer. Juanetta
I just looked at the Tombstone Project at Rootsweb and found the old Civil War Cemetery has been vandalized by teenagers. We have told recently that the VA will, with verification (picture) of the restruction of veterans' stones, replace them. Will someone who knows a member the board please advise them of this? Connie

To the north is Carson City; Lyon County is to the east, and California is to the west and south. Douglas County includes the towns of Genoa, Minden, and Gardnerville (these three towns plus the surrounding land encompass Carson Valley). Carson Valley is one of Nevada's first settled areas and includes the state's first permanent settlement, Genoa. Since Douglas County was primarily a ranching community, the area was much less transient than those counties whose chief industry was mining. Many of the families found in these records still have descendants living on the same ranches and in the same towns that were inhabited by these early Nevadans more than 100 years ago.
