I finally found people who were very helpful and no will share what I have found with others. A HUGE THANKS to two ladies at the New Madrid Library who pointed me to the DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville, MO. who deserves another HUGE THANKS for giving me specific directions to the Grape Ridge Cemetery. Here it is:The Grape Ridge Cemetery can be located by going east on the Conran Road about 4 miles north of Portageville, from State highway 61 a couple of miles until you come to a bridge that crosses a creek. Stop infront of a farm house just before you get to the bridge. On the East side of the house is a large tree. That is the cemetery. I located it just as they had predicted. This is just a small cemetery of no more than a dozen or so stones. Some stones are missing and just the bases are left, some are turned over or laying on the ground and the grass had just about taken over the cemetery. Although I did not find any stone for my Great Grand Father, Henry F. Green, I did find some by digging around in the grass and dirt. Below is a listing of what I found: Leaning against the tree were two very narrow stones that had initials only: I.D. A.D. AMAB DELISLE B. 11-12-1824. D. 1-29-1878 WILLIAM HILL D. 7-10-1871 AGE 30 YRS JOSEPHINE I. LESIEUR B. 7-4-1887 D. 1899 ANDREW C. SON OF A.G. & T. GODAIR B. 3-17-1885 D. 9-24-1892 EDWARD F. 2. I am not sure the library staff has the time to do look-ups. The library in New Madrid has two new librarians and you could certainly call and ask: Rhonda Bickenstaff and Kathy Marchbanks. Hours are 9 to 5 M-F and 9 to 12 Saturday. At present, the library is closed for lunch during the week from 12 to 1 p.m. Phone is: 573 748-2378. Address: 431 Mill Street, New Madrid. The New Madrid library, complete with a genealogy room, is a great resource. Even though I live out of state, I have spent many hours there while working on a genealogy book and now, a manuscript with a working title of "Tales Beyond the Levee: A Mississippi River Town in History and Legend." Previous librarians, Martha Henry Hunter and Jerri Ruth Beaher Patterson, have retired. Mary Sue Anton ************** Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home.
