My gr grandfather was John Richard Lewis, born in 1863 in MO or CO. His father, who's name I am trying to find out, was from KY according to the Census. John married my gr, grandmother, Sarah Frances Snider, in Dunklin Co., MO in 1900. I have not been able to find any of John Lewis's family. I know that Dunklin, Stoddard and Pemiscot Counties all used to be New Madrid until they were made into counties themselves and wondered if he might be connected to your Lewis's. I am researching Simer/Simers/Picklesimer's that settled in Oregon County, MO during the 1870's Leander Jackson Picklesimer (surname also stated as P'Simer, Simer, and Simers) was born about 1827 in Buncombe/Haywood County, North Carolina and was the son of John Picklesimer and Elizabeth Love. John Picklesimer and family were listed in the 1830 census for Buncombe family. Presumably after the death of John's mother the family traveled through Tennessee and settled in southern Illinois near the Jefferson/Marion county line. Leander would marry Dianna Prosise August 25, 1847 in Marion County, IL. Leander and two of his brothers would muster in the Illinois confederate infantry on Mar 7, 1865 and muster out on July 24, 1865. Presumably after he mustered out Leander would move his family to Oregon County, Missouri. Leander and Dianna would have 10 children, nine of which were born in Illinois, the tenth, Jackson Simer, was born in missouri and would become orphaned after the death of his parents. Leander Jackson Simer would die April 16, 1873. Several of Leander's children are known to have moved to Texas 1. Leander Jackson 1827 - 16 Apr 1873 M. Dianna Prosise 1827 - ?
