Did the death certificate give the name of the funeral home in Portageville? If so, contact them for an obituary as well as the funeral record. I did not see either one of them listed in the Portageville Cemetery listings,deaths up to 1970. The funeral record should give you the place of burial. I have a Wm D PUGH b NC that married a Martha Caroline HOUSE b about 1856 in Monroe / St Francis Co AR where Martha's mother Parthenia ANDREWS (ANDERS) came with her 1st spouse George M. HOUSE from Lincoln / Wilkes Co GA about 1855. Wm D. PUGH and Martha had a son Leander / Lee Andrew PUGH who married and went to Kerens, Navarro Co TX. He was 1 of 4 sons who all were in the Cotton Seed Oil business, living in various places including Ft Smith AR (Wm Aubrey or Audrey PUGH); Fred PUGH who was in TX, OK and FL; Noel Laddell / Lodel PUGH who was in OK and AR for sure; and Lee Andrew. Lee Andrew had a son Jr, and Jr had a son Lee Andrew III. They don't have a photo of him. Lilbourn A. Lewis page 901 and 902 Lilbourn A. Lewis, prosperous merchant of New Madrid, Mo., is a native of the county, born on October 4, 1843. He is a son of Lilbourn Lewis, a native of Albemarle County, Va., who went to Kentucky in 1812. He came to Missouri about 1830 and located in New Madrid County, on Lewis Prairie. After coming to Missouri he married Hannah R. Hayden, a native of Cape Girardeau County. He resided on his farm, engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death in 1876. Lilbourn A. Lewis grew to manhood on his father's farm, and has secured most of his education since arriving at mature years by reading and private study. In 1861 he enlisted in the Confederate army, joining Col. Bowen's regiment, First Missouri Infantry, with which he served until the fall of Vicksburg in 1863. During the most of the time he served as the colonel's orderly. After the fall of Vicksburg he joined Forrest's cavalry and remained with them until the fall of 1864, when he was captured in Lake County, Tenn., and! held prisoner at St. Louis until almost the close of the war. Upon his release he returned home and was engaged in farming in New Madrid County until 1875, when he formed a partnership with H. C. Latham and engaged in the drug business, which he has continued. He also engaged in the hardware business in 1880, it being the first general hardware store in New Madrid; to this he added, the first of January, 1888, a stock of groceries. He carries a large and complete stock of goods and controls a good trade. He was married in Lake County, Tenn., on January 3, 1866, to Miss S. C. Merriwether, a daughter of A. G. Merriwether, a brother of Gov. Merriwether. She died in March, 1874, leaving two sons, L. G. and Winston. Mr. Lewis was married in January, 1878, to Miss Emma Laforge, a native of the county, and a daughter of A. A. Laforge. Two children have been born to them, Lottie and Freddie. This is probably just a coincidence of names, but my husbands family moved from Big Sandy TN to the New Madrid area. Luraney Snider married Lewis G Matheny on 1 Feb 1863. On the Benton Co Tn census for 1880, she is listed as head of house. Apparently Lewis G. died between 1870-1874. Youngest child, listed as her daughter is 6 years of age, and named Luraney Lewis.
