    1. [MONCRIEF-L] Re: "Samuel" Moncief

    3. Years ago, I spoke with the family of "Sam" Moncrief and they were very definite about two things. 1. Sam, born 28 January 1849, and son of Margaret Hall and William Moncrief and WAS married to another "Margaret Hall". 2. Sam's name was actually Samuel, not Sampson as many people erroneously stated and the error passed on by others "assuming" Sam stood for Sampson and not bothering to check for facts. Today, I received the information from the National Archives that accompanied the Census Roll Card for my family of Moncriefs which were Choctaw Indians. Among other things, there was the sworn statement of my great grandmother (Susan Moncrief Garvin) about her brother, "Samuel" Moncrief. I think these two facts should prove that Sam's name was Samuel. I hope I do not sound angry as I am not. The Internet has been great to me lately and I found a family for which people have been looking for about 40 years on my Chickasaw line. Marlene
