Polly Ann married Enoch Watts (b. 1834 IN) in Sangamon County in October 1855. My circumstantial evidence: 1) An 1855 Illinois state census (July 1855) shows an H. Gard living in Mechanicsburg, Sangamon County, IL with one boy under 10 (W. Christopher Gard, b. 1855? or Sherman David Gard, b. 1844?), one male 40-50 (H. Gard), 2 females under 10 (Sara Elettie Gard, b. 1846 in Sangamon Co.; Lucinda Gard, b. 1853 in Sangamon Co.), 1 female 10-20 (Polly Ann?), and one female age 40-50 (Serena Cook Gard). 2) Polly Ann and Enoch Watts had two sons, James H. Watts (b. 1856 IL) and Charles S. Watts (my great-grandfather, b. 1859 Salisbury, IL). One of James' sons was named James Harrison Watts. My theory is that the H. in the father's name was for Polly Ann's father because the James was for Enoch's father, James Watts. Then, James named his son James Harrison, continuing the name for another generation. 3) Polly Ann and Enoch disappear after the 1860 census, but their boys show up (and grow up/marry) in or near Morgan County, MO where Harrison Gard eventually settled and died. In the 1870 census, there is a Daniel and Sarah (Gard) Mock in Richland, Morgan County, MO. Living with them is a Laura E. Watts (b. 1860, IL). Laura may have been a daughter born to Polly Ann and Enoch after the 1860 census was taken that showed their only children were their two sons. Would love to collaborate with anyone else researching Harrison Gard and family. Would especially like to know if anyone has found an obituary for either Harrison or Serena Gard.
